I was looking through my Flickr albums earlier wondering which one to share and this one, you could say, 'popped' at me.

One of the biggest (and one of my favourite) locations I have explored to date, visited on a cold wet day in October a few years ago now. Situated on docklands in the north of England this massive facility was used to produce and blend grease products for Mobil as well as being an oil storage depot. It opened in the 1930s but was badly damaged during WWII, and largely rebuilt in the 1950s before closing in 2001 when operations transferred elsewhere.

This place defined the term 'pipe porn'.

20. ...so we made a quick exit through the oil storage tanks

Cheers for looking

Great pictures and explore! You said that this place closed down in 2001. Any indication that they may be tearing it down soon?

You're not in a brothel lineup. You're in a two way business discussion.

The oil storage tanks were removed and shipped off to Poland to be reused in 2012, and demolition of the site began at the end of 2013 if the demolition company website was to be believed but it's a four hour drive away so I've not been up to check it recently!

Sweet find and excellent set. The climber in me would have been in heaven with all those pipes.
