Strange Find...

Last week I was out in the local desert doing a little solo scouting of an area that is only about 20 minutes from an area with a population of over 200,000, but few visit.

While exploring I found this strange site and structures. It appears to be a alter made from odd building materials. There are animal horns, bones, skins and feathers attached and hanging from the frame work. There is clothing and strange little personal items placed on frame work also.

Other odd things are the 4 small stone tables that are placed around the main structure that face North, South, East and West. Oh and don't forget the the doll heads in a circle with a headless doll in the center.

But strangest of all...was the hole I found a bout 100 feet away. It looks like a empty grave you see in a movie. A hole about 30 inches deep and 6 feet long with all the excavated dirt neatly piles alongside the hole! It appeared empty!

I took a couple of shots, but was creaped out, so I left! I do a lot of solo camping and exploring, just me and my 3 dogs, and have seen some strange things. This was the strangest I have seen, and not sure I want to go back. Needless to say, we camped a fair ways from this site!

It looked like it had been awhile since someone had been there, but it had rained recently. The site is clean, with little trash, no tire prints, which is kind of strange considering the location is at least 7 miles from a paved road.

I kind of got side tracked looking around and only took a couple of pictures of the alter before I left, but trust me...it was strange!

Camp and 2 of my 3 fur kids 1.

The alter is located at the base of the far rock mountain 1.

That is really strange and interesting. Do you have any more pics of it? I would have been pretty freaked out by the shallow grave too. Sounds like the setup for a horror story.

I was out in the area last weekend and stopped by the site. This time we were on our dual sports and I showed it to a couple of my buddies. All agreed it was one of the strangest finds they had seen.

It had been visited and things had been changed.

The doll heads are gone as are the ring of chairs, that had been moved into groups of 2-3 chairs and the building materials were moved.

Here are a couple more pictures including the "Grave!"

The skin appears to be a sheep.

I don't think this has anything to do with a movie, it just looks like a place people go and do ???? 1.

Kinda off topic, but what is your rig and camp set up? I do a lot of solo camping myself and am always looking for ways to improve. P/M me if want or post here.

Just celebrated the birth of my third girl, an exploration all in its self.

Here is a quick run down on my set up, if you want to discuss more, we can use other means.

I camp from my 1985 Toyota FJ60 LandCruiser which I converted to diesel. I installed sliding windows, a dog barrier and window bars for our 3 dogs to keep them safe and happy while we travel.

My camping equipment is basic and small.

Cooking and lanterns are Coleman liquid fuel models - stoves are 2 - 400a's and the lanterns are 222a's single mantel. One camp box has both stoves, lantern, fuel, mantles and all cooking utensils for up 4 people.

Old school REI Dome tent with a good air mattress, and a Wiggy sleeping bag

For most camp fires where no local wood is available, I use a Camp Fire in a Can. Works great and a small propane tank will last many days when used for a couple of hours each day. Plus it has a grill and is USFS/BLM Fire Restriction Legal!

I have a tarp and poles that uses magnets to attach to the back of the 60 for rain and sun protection.

Simple and easy is important, as is being comfortable with solid dependable equipment.
