Finally, something else that's military besides those missile silos (no offense to the very few in the midwest that have been fortunate enough to explore one). The following link is from a Cracked article. It surprised me that someone in their team took the time to create a non-hilarious article; the person must obviously be into urban exploring. Enjoy!

#4 was my favorite. An abandoned, manmade, military base island... Gadzooks!

its pretty cool, the mothball fleet in Suisun bay is being dismantled, all but 12 of the ships have been moved, refurbished or scrapped. the tank graveyard in Afghanistan is slowly getting dismantled and scrapped.

still a cool article.

That boneyard in Tuscon is amazing. I'd heard of the military "storing" planes in such a manner but the size and number of planes is incredible.

I've heard of the plane boneyard before, it started with lots of WWII planes being stored there.

I grew up in Tucson and through the years watched the mix of airplanes change as one generation became scrap and a newer generation took their place. The process continues till today. I vividly remember the rows of B-52s and F-4s lined up out there. Not so many now...

Thanks for sharing, but what crap writing. Interesting that we made the list at #6. At least they gave Scott photo credit and site link back, but they missed the other team members, UER's own freeside and tunnelbug. ;) This guys also wrongly assumes that there isn't much security, ha! He obviously doesn't realize the level of effort required to do something like this and the months of planning and research.

"Yes, that's duct tape covering the barrels. Clearly, this ship no longer presents any danger to society, should some unscrupulous individual seek to steal it and show his ex-wife's handsome new playboy boyfriend what he thinks of his precious yacht. Oh, but that would never happen, because even if you get past the duct tape (psh, good luck!), there must be tons of security, right? Not so much. In May 2011, Scott Haefner -- less of an "international superthief" and more of a "casual boat fan" -- managed to break through fleet security and spend an entire weekend photographing the remaining fleet. He and a friend boarded the ships and hopped from vessel to vessel for 48 hours, using only an inflatable raft and a few other supplies you could buy from any camping supply store. One of the greatest surprises Scott stumbled upon while out dicking around on the ghost armada was the Sea Shadow (IX-529)."
