~ 137 Years Later ~

Some buildings have past. This sure has it's own. Main building was built at 1878 and this was one time Finland's biggest mansion what comes to land area and it still have 4400 hectares around it including golf course etc.

Mansion's history is at it's own level. There have been many deaths (which is quite obvious comparing to it's age of 137), last ones at this century, but also quite many suicides have been done in it's rooms. Also one owner did get at the time of civil war in so bad situation that he did have quickly sell whole mansion. After that he did take few friends with him and get travel through Europe spending money like hell. Millions did end while coming back at Paris; past millionaire did give out all the money that were left so friends could get back home and after that he did head to his hotel room, go to bath and cut his wrists open - one more suicide.

Mansion also have some other strange deaths through it's past. One death of child was caused by other children's damage shot. One owner did shoot three teenagers to their tent because they have been camped on mansion's territory.

So if you would believe unnatural or curse or life after death, this would be nice place to get in the mood. Sadly I don't believe any of those, so for me this was only really beautiful old mansion with bit gloomy history. I believe that there have happen much good things too, but who cares about those..? Human's mind is quite weird if you really think it.

Anyway they say that it is in too bad condition to repair, so they are planning to demolish it and build new (and modern) mansion at that place. Really, really, really sad.

One February Morning (137 Years Since):

It Was Snowing Slightly, Again:

Flagpole's Slow Way Down:

Surrounded by Ancient Garden:

Facing Was Ripped Away:

Naked and Alone (with Forever Falling Snow):

So Shall Everything Burn:

Under the Dying Candle Light:

Suffering at the Lakeside:

Stone Cold Lion:

Talking About Birches:

-----

And then there were only one photo left, that traditional climax of idiotism (because this is UE-forum): off-topic-bonus-picture! This time it comes from rapids. For my surprise I did get at shared first place in one photo contest (with UE-photo by the way), and from that I did get gift card to camera shop so I did get Canon EOS 1200D, because now it's much more stressfull to torture my 1000D knowing when it will die I don't have to suffer withdrawal symptoms. I did also get Keiko Pro ND8 filter; now I can use long exposures even in daylight which feels like... freedom! This is from first test trip containing stone, ice and flowing water.

Endless Flow of Water:

Thanks for watching.

Although the shots of the house and interiors are great, the real gem for me is the final shot of the long driveway extending into the hazy background. I like how it stresses the sombre seclusion here, very reminiscent of something out of The Shining.

Hey, me too! But place was kind of... One local friend did tell that even today's owners are quite jealous about their area and I did have to drive there through road with "no tresspassing" signs and leave my car to place where anybody would immediately know where I have gone from there, so it was (too) quick visit. But I wish soooooo much that they don's demolish it too soon, so I could get another change at summer, then I could get there from another way I'll think.

Thank you very much. I did have traditional web site called "Autiot ja unohdetut" (=deserted and forgotten) for 8 years to last autumn, when my internet access provider did decide that nobody doesn't need homepage space anymore, so they were gone about week after total reform (thanks fucking lot)! :/

So today Autiot ja unohdetut lives only in Facebook:

That driveway really is amazing. I'm sure there is possibility to catch even better photos of it, so I am waiting for next time...

What a beautiful building! And I love the trees all around it. Such a shame they're going to tear it down. Do you personally feel that it's beyond repair? Going by your photos it doesn't look so bad.

Great job at capturing the driveway. Just looking at it makes me feel lonely, lol, though at the same time I imagine how peaceful it would be to walk down.

The birches photo is amazing. You have captured the history and sorrows of this old mansion perfectly. You achieved the vintage look on many of them. Stunning work Wolfheart. You never fail to capture the mood of the building and surrounding.

I will try, but it's bit far for poor guy like me, so I probably will take risk and wait until there are leafs on trees... maybe. Anything ain't sure when you are this deeply addicted.

I really don't know. I mean of course there is some point when repairs go too far from wisdom but... I know one much bigger mansion which seems to be even worst condition when I did photograph it, and now owner is repairing it, giving it new life. And this topics mansion is owned by really rich man, so...

Feels kind of odd that they did restore that one room with as detailed as possible just 10 years ago, I mean have situation change so quickly or didn't they just notice it back then? My personal opinion (which doesn't base anything)... I guess that they just want to build there that modern mansion. So sad.

That loneliness is quite... well, just few moments after taking that picture on that road did appear man with horse and I did have to get off from there. I don't know if I really did have to but...

I wish that they will save at least that fireplace. Would be crime to destroy something like that.

Thanks. I did be bit worried if this vintage thing goes too far, but I personally did think it fits quite well in these. I'm glad if I am not only with that opinion.
