I've always wanted to do some exploring in Detroit. Seems like there are a ton of great abandoned places there.

Hi Conner,

As an old-timer here -- who grew up in SE Michigan & lived for 5 years in downtown Detroit (100 Riverfront Drive), the high-rises next to Joe Louis Arena) before fleeing to the West Coast, I have some suggestions for you.

You're absolutely right to be concerned about exploring solo in Detroit, however one or two people with you don't necessarily make things much safer, and a larger group of people will be more noticeable.

Many of us here are at least a little suspicious of and/or annoyed by new people wanting to tag-along. In your case, you admit you are new to UE & then state you're "hooked," but next you say you don't have any leads to places. If you're in SE Michigan, there are plenty of places to UE, some relatively safe enough to do a minor penetration solo! There are plenty of interesting, & unusual sites awaiting exploration & documentation where technically, your presence doesn't even constitute a crime (mature UE'rs explore & document sites legally & illegally, immature UE'rs get most of their thrills by simply trespassing).

OPEN YOUR EYES! Do some easy solo UEs (or take a non-UE friend with you for safety -- perhaps they'll have fun) & start posting some of your exploits here (following forum guidelines) & once you start to develop a reputation for having even minor skills & experience, some of the more experienced people in the SE Michigan area might come out of the woodwork & invite you to join them on explorations.

Your initial post asking for assistance is honest & innocent, but it also shows you to be a 'clueless newbie' looking for handouts. While we were all in your shoes once, most of us ended up taking the initiative to UE on our own or drag one or two friends with us, so by the time we came across this web site, we had an experienced frame of reference & could document the experience by sharing photos & info of our exploits, rather than just saying "Help me!"

Just walk down the street in Detroit, and you'll find several leads.
