You know, it strikes me that (with a few caveats, of course) it's actually nice for reasonable security measures to be in place at most sites. I quite enjoy them. They keep a lot of the idiots and casual curiosity-seekers out and make it more fun for me to figure out how to get in - and usually have a better experience once inside. So how about a thread dedicated to the under-appreciated rent-a-cops, local police, fences, barbed wire, threatening signage, neighborhood watch, and other security out there - not just the hilariously pathetic kind - that can actually make our hobby more enjoyable. Eh?

i see what your saying here, apprecieation of the challenge?

the world is at your hands, build to your dreams. let no challenge, no person, no anything, tell you different, this world is free, as free as you allow your self. life free, be well, and most importantly, be who who you truly are.

I do enjoy a challenge and thus a bigger gratification for success, but personally I'd prefer safer entry if I had the choice. Not that I don't enjoy hardships but I feel like there's a point where you're leaving your success up to chance and gambling your personal safety and well-being. Therefore I <3 some-security-that-isn't-too-bad.

The problem I have with security (the living kind) is that after the explore is all done with, I realize I was paying to much attention to security & missed or forgot a lot of the things I would normally do during an explore.

Sometimes the non-stealth, no threat, well hidden & easy access explore is just what the doctor ordered.

Motion detectors are the best - a lot of them have a small red led indicator on them that blinks when triggered so you know if you set it off, which i find makes it feel like trespassing is a game or something.

Plus, if you know a motion detector is in a hallway it can force you into taking more.. Creative paths to wherever you want to get to.

It's amazing what a guard can do in terms of graffiti and destruction. There's a guarded powerplant in Toronto that has been closed for decades. It was never tagged during many waves of graffiti. Then there's the Don Valley Brickworks, which was always wide open and completely tagged.

The wide-open places can have their appeal too if they offer some interesting sights. Everyone visits them at some point, and they become a shared experience in the community.

I've never explored an abandoned building with security (yet). I always stick with places that no one really cares about anymore just in another attempt to avoid getting busted. I'm planning on exploring an old jail soon with security so I'm excited to see how that goes

Totally.

The first part is what I was getting at. The sites with some simple security are often more "pristine" and more free from vandals, local high schoolers, and idiots, making my own experience more pleasant.

That said, I'm in complete agreement with the second part.

As I indicated in my original post, there are definitely major caveats in my position. Just thought the slightly provocative title might incite more interest and discussion.
