I've got somewhat of a ghost town I thought about for a meetup, or else I have been think of some other places as I have been working with the guy that runs the "Abandoned Iowa" Facebook Page. I have permission to a lot of places in Beaver, Iowa. There's the school and a block of houses, and a collapsing service garage. That location is west of Boone, then in Boone I know of a church camp, and a bunch of railway cars. I was thinking central Iowa would be ideal, but i'm open to ideas. Unfortunately the Luther school 15 minutes from Boone was torn down last weekend, so that's out of the idea. I've also heard that in Adel, Iowa Spring Manufacturing is abandoned, so it'd be a larger place. Another large place I can think of is the brick factory near Lehigh, or maybe the North End Diner and Best Western in Johnston.

Either way I've been thinking about planning a meetup for April or May one weekend. If anybody wanted to do a two day thing I could get permission to camp in the railcars (Or I'm assuming I could... I already have a key to the property) or even the camp, and maybe do like the brick factory and Beaver one day, then we could come to Boone, grab the church camp and sleep at the abandoned railcars, then head to something in the DM area like Best Western or the Spring Manufacturer. But maybe a one day thing would be better then we'd still have places to choose from if we have a 2nd meetup.

That sounds like a plan. I'm amazed at the amount of legitimate locations you've got down - that's pretty awesome. A two-day thing might be more complex to figure out and may result in lungs filled with heavy metals from camping in abandonments, but the Milky Way and sunrises are always nice. To me, the Beaver school looks the most epic, collapsing floors aside, but if this does work out I'm up for anything. I hope to get to know you all better in the future!

Haha, I think we'd be fine with camping in the railcars, if it's not too warm we could easily spend the night in the double-decker Metra cars. The only downside to Beaver is that the only floor left is the concrete one where the stairs are. I really wish they hadn't torn down Luther. I'll start planning more once I get some more input.. Maybe I should make a thread just for this topic.

Or we could make this one 60some pages long... But feel free to make another, or we could all just communicate via messages. We should also get some more voices in this, Iowa has quite a few members on here.

Hey everyone.

I had to get through my trial period to say hello.

I am a recent participant in Urban Exploration.. I am a longtime watcher on subreddits like AbandonedPorn, etc.

I live in Des Moines. Center of the state, but I am willing to drive anywhere in the state to meet with people with similar interests and explore.

Not sure what else to say yet, but HELLO!

Also... I didn't see where you started another post; so I hope this is the one we are continuing...

I know I'm replying really late, but I'll be moving up to Iowa Falls for school this August, and I'd love to meet some people out there and maybe explore with some of you guys.

The people of Iowa welcome you

A couple hours east in Iowa City, here, though I find myself up in the CF/Waterloo area on the fairly regular. Good luck with your move.

Bumping this post to rekindle the discussion of who is from Iowa here.

Would love to do a meetup somewhere and chat, share stories, and go exploring.
