Introducing Myself (AKA "Oh god! Another MSP newbie!")

Greetings!

I have been lurking around these parts a bit, and I thought it was time I signed up for an account and started contributing to the community. I'm a 20-something lady in MSP. Fascinated by old buildings before I knew it was a "thing." Like taking photos. Blah, blah, blah...nothing you haven't heard before.

One of my favorite things is obsessively researching potential new spots. I love uncovering something that may not be well-known and then learning every last little thing about the history of the property. Scouting it out early morning/broad daylight/after dark to learn its little secrets and devise an approach. For me, the planning is almost as fun as the actual conquest. Almost.

Lately I've been ramping up significantly, doing two sites last weekend with plans of at least 2 more this coming weekend. I have to get through at least part of my massive list while this warm weather holds out!

Anyhow--that's me! If you see me around these boards, that's where I'm coming from. Cheers!

Welcome to the most enormous and most active and most resourceful UE community in the western hemisphere. Been crawling around poop for 15 years. Commence 50 more replies to this post...the bad news is since there are so many of us you almost have to take a weekend trip to see new places that haven't been seen yet.

Buildings are the gateway drug of MSP. Pretty soon you'll be ecstatically swimming in poop tunnels without proper safeguards. And it will be awesome.

Welcome to the urbex community. You just missed Mouser Week. And you're in the wrong place for buildings. We've lost virtually all our good buildings in the past couple years. You'd best start learning to love sandstone tunnels and storm drains.

Ah, but I could spend that time digging instead.

Hi! I'm another newbie from MSP, although it sounds like you're more experienced than me. If you're ever looking for an exploring partner I am always down, I go to school in the area, LMK!

And Jim, how do you find time to do anything if all time must be spent digging?!

Welcome!

While the maze is well on its way to completion, I feel like I don't spend enough time digging. Too many other awesome tunnels to hunt in various corners of the Midwest! Now that I think about it, I have tentative plans the next four weekends in a row to go tunnel hunting. Returning to Sandland for regular digging on most Sundays, that is. Everything is good in moderation, but like the rest of you guys, I suffer from an extreme case of too much to do too little time.

Bahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Thank you, that was hilarious. It took me a minute to see what you did there. I love the subtlety.

Hello Carmen, and welcome to the local scene. Also, I love your philosophy in regards to exploring. I totally agree with you that the process of discovering a location (especially a fresh one) and taking part i the subsequent on-site, and off-site research (IE hours at the history museum, geological society etc) Is just an essential piece of the puzzle. Many times the scouting and research end up actually being more enjoyable than the infiltration part. It's been said a billion times but, the occasions on which I receive "tours" of locations from other explorers just seem to be missing something. And they are (although there are situations when this approach is neccesary). A motivated explorer often will end up investing more time into the "recon" than the actual time spent exploring.

Anyways, I apologize for the run on-ness of the previous paragraph. Just wanted to say welcome. Perhaps we will bump into each other at some point. I actually rarely get out anymore, and when I do, 95% of the time it's solo. Just to clear a couple things up with the other locals, it is not you guys I am avoiding. In short, I switched to exploring the insides of textbooks lately instead, and those who know me well know the other half. I do have some serious separation anxiety/withdrawal as a result of the lack of FRL-air and quality time with Gastby, and the rest of you.

BTW Carmen, proper analysis of fresh snow on the ground at a location can tell you a hell of a lot about location traffic too, the presence of security/security patrol routes, and other types of traffic. I'm sure you are aware of this already, but I feel like many explorers only think about snow as being a tactical disadvantage.
