Welcome to UER! You didn't give us much from these pictures so what are your intentions? Are you looking for any critiques or just wanting to share what you saw?

Either way, you will find sections dedicated to helping you advance as a photographer. If you are not interested in that, then that's cool, too.

Cruise around the site and introduce yourself and keep posting pictures. You will find some great contacts and good friends if you keep at it.

Any other info about the location? (Name dropping is normally frowned upon, just an fyi). Was it a school? A store?

What state are you in?

If you want to really dive in to getting critique, post some of your favorites into "UE Photo Critiques", but only when you are ready!! A lot of it will come down to browsing around and seeing what you like in other pictures, then take the time to learn how to frame shots, expose properly, and find interesting things to take pictures of.

Good luck!

As far as the photography goes, you mainly need to work on lighting. Are you using a tripod? These look like they were taken in near pitch black conditions, so if not, you should be! And if so, work on doing long exposures with light painting. ie. Open the shutter, move your flashlight around a bunch, and then close the shutter. There is actually a user board on this site dedicated to flashlights and light painting - you'll find some good stuff there.

Also, work on exposure. You see those completely whited out areas on the toilet seat in #11? And the completely black areas in #9? That means those shots were not exposed correctly. ie. Not enough light reaching the sensor.

Your composition could use some work too, but probably not too much point in worrying about composition until you've improved on the more technical skills of lighting and exposure.

Also, any particular reason that all the photos are super-close-ups of stuff? I'm not quite the intrepid photographer as many people on UER are but certainly I would like to see more of the place than a set of decrepit, old pipes. If I wanted to see rusty plumbing I could hit up the crawlspace in my basement, but that's just my two cents.

I used to have a lot of pictures like this, too close, bad lighting, etc as they were more for documentation (and taken with a cell phone)

What helped me was to use a camera with a full manual mode. I just messed around with stuff until it looked good and remembering how to do that (Even though I still use Full Auto mode for documentation pictures).

Thanks all for the advice good points by all not a great photographer but really like to explore. The close up shots to me show the detail in the decay more then the whole thing. If I just shot the bathroom I was in of the building to me it would just be a torn up bathroom the small items make the point. In looking at others photos what I see for some reason is the lone shoe why do they always leave the one shoe? Almost every factory locker room washroom hospital ward the lone shoe. Strange I know but all thanks again. As for the SSDUCK I work nights so when the morning comes you get this vampire feeling like sunshine duck.

Welcome to the site! The pictures are a great starting off point and I'm sure you will develop your skills as you do more. If you are into the photography side as well as the urbex, the key is using your camera every day. Take photos of everyday stuff, but focus on learning how to adjust settings or form composition in the frame. That way your ready to go when a location pops up.

Welcome. You need to step back a few feet and take notice of everything that surrounds you. Detail shots are nice, when mixed in with wide shots of the whole experience. I am put off by nothing but detail shots. There is no story told here.
