Hm. Where do I start - I didn't get to shoot much personally this year, so this represents the urban and rural stuff I ventured into over the last six months.

VIRGINIA

1. You guys know what this stairwell is. I won't pretend I have anything photographically to add to the conversation, except I really never liked seeing this in green, so decided to evaluate it in B&W.

3. The commercial kitchen in that same complex.


4. This is from the warehouse of an abandoned cigarette factory. Loved the texture of the split-wood door.


5. A barn that's slowly fallllllling down in southern VA. Got there on a lucky day.

NORTH CAROLINA

8. There are two pretty well-known neighboring warehouses. Not sure what the long-term plans are for these two buildings. They need a lot of facework, that's for sure, but both seem structurally sound.

16. The second one I was glad I wasn't doing a night explore. There are some holes you might miss otherwise. I'm assuming whomever still owns this place realized that so they threw some carts down the elevator shaft. One spot you can walk over as if it's the floor and you don't realize you've passed thru the elevator. Kind of a risky proposition if you ask me.

21. Checked out a couple of schools, the first was completely burnt down,


22. and the other one was completely tore up. So much human destruction, looked like a nuclear blast had hit.

SOUTH CAROLINA

I travelled a bunch to South Carolina for work.

23. I drive past this house down I-95 all the time but never noticed it until a beautiful day like this. Not much going inside but pretty damn neat.


24. This is one of the hotels near South of the Border. Always intriguing to see nature take over what we errantly believe are our permanent marker.


25. During some off-time I found a couple of abandoned (locked) storefronts,


26. ...and visited this Olympic-sized pool. Wasn't really interested in shooting it, just wanted to check it out in person. If nothing else, the scale is impressive.


27. This abandoned apartment complex was right down the street for one of my shoots. It's about 12-15 buildings that are being gutted and torn down. Not sure the long-term plans. It rained one day, so I had the day off. It was Sunday, so...you guessed it - time to become selectively illiterate.

29. Not sure what kind of neighborhood this used to be, but...


30. I'm really attached to this more than I should be. It's small, but there's something about the color drained from the flag that really does it for me.

Guessing 2015 will be worse for wandering into abandoned locations, so see you in another year!

BTW I was under the impression that the building the stairs from #1 were in was being demolished or are they leaving it as it is? I always wanted to go there but I thought I missed my chance

I heard they were being turned into apartments/condos. From what I am to understand, it was already half done I also have always wanted to visit. Maybe we should link up and check it out before it's too late.

Yup, it's all privately owned property by a developer. Three of the buildings have been converted and people are living in them, which is an odd dynamic. Pictures of the stair are littered all over the internet, so visiting will likely become more risky over time, especially since someone's invested in turning a profit on this thing. I went early on Christmas morning. A week later, I received a note from a connection that when she swung by, was scared off by local patrols and pushed on. I have a difficult time believing the development company would be that insulated and oblivious that nobody was like, "Hey...isn't this your place?".

YO I'm down to check it out although it sounds like security patrols the area a bit now. Would you be down for an early morning trip out there?

#1 looks like a giant auger drilling down from the sky to drain Earth's natural resources or something.

And the car in the last one, I wonder if it still ran...

B/W stairs is refreshing: the contrast stands out more starkly than when in color.
