Abandoned High School

Me and my two pals went into an abandoned high school in my area this week. It was a great explore, it was basically in pristine condition. No vandals or punks had been in there to mess it up or break anything.

The school was opened in 1907 and was closed in 2009. In May of 2014 a group of artists got permission to transform some of the rooms in the school into an art gallery. It wasn't your regular art gallery with art hanging on the wall, they turned the actual rooms into pieces of art. It was quite cool. Anyway, here are some pictures!

1. the exterior

2.

3. the science room

4. chalkboard

5. calendar on the floor

6. the world is your stage

7. the electricity is still on...notice the lights

Very interesting, it's rare to see something like this so pristine. Some of these photos have decent compositions as well. Was there any security on the building that kept vandals away?

That's really cool. Old schools are my favorite. Our 2013 closures are barely hanging on, most of the 09's are completely unsalvageable losses.

Nope, no security guards or even a fence around it! People still hang out around the school I guess; there were a lot of people from the area just using the football field as a dog park.
It's on a pretty busy road so I'm guessing that's why vandals stay clear of it. That and the the fact that there are basically no ways inside.
Whatever the reason is that vandals don't shred it up, I'm happy they don't

Are any of the art installations leftover? If so, any shots of those? Thanks for sharing!

Then we have to assume that this was a permission visit?

Likewise...
I would also like to see some of the rooms of art if you have any. If not, maybe there is a return visit in store

Nope we were just more serious about finding a way in than vandals

The room with the calendar on the floor and the room with the earth on the floor were part of the exhibit. I didn't get a lot of shots of the other rooms because they were just "eh" compared to those two, but I did get this cool shot! They transformed the stairs into a rainbow lol

This is an incredible find!! Do they ever allow the public in or is the art just for those who somehow manage to find their ways inside?

Last spring it was open for the public to walk through and see the artwork. After the exhibit, they left everything there

I would venture to guess that one of the reasons is Utah. ;)

Alright here are some more pictures of the other wing They turned a section of it into a movie set but then ran out of money to keep it going so that's why some of it doesn't seem much like a school. But hey! It made for an explore in an explore! So to me that's just fine

It might just be me, but abandoned schools usually don't give me the chills or the feeling something bad is dwelling inside it. Even some prisons surprisingly. But if I am in a Hospital or a Residential School or something that is linked to death and abuse, then I can feel it big time.

Very interesting location! It's nice to see it being put to some creative uses after it was abandoned.

Some parts of the school look better maintained in their abandoned state than parts of the high school went to looked like when the building was full of students!
