A tool for exploring, designed with us in mind!

So here is the prototype of my latest tool and the object of my soon to launch Kickstarter project, the "Mega Pry"! This is a modular tool made of two tools that can be used independently but join together for bigger jobs. One has a normal pry tip and the other has a 90 degree offset tip which enhances leverage by four times (verified by independent structural engineer) and can be used in situations where working space is an issue. Both are 6" x 1/4" (handle sections are 3/4" wide) made of 440c stainless steel treated to HRc54. I chose this material and hardness to give the tools a balanced blend of strength, toughness and corrosion resistance.

The U shaped notch at one end of each tool is 1/2" deep so that when joined the tool is 11", nearly doubling its length. The CNC machined ball grooves reduce weight while simultaneously increasing the tool's structural strength. I designed this tool with active duty military and fire rescue professionals in mind however I am sure everyone will enjoy the power, convenience and versatility of this tool. This tool is not for breaking into locations, but for general utility and possible self rescue if needed. I will take many more photos and some video once they come back from heat treat and before the project launches. Any questions or comments are welcome, let me know what you think and thanks for looking!

I'm a tool and I like to explore.

Awsome design... but, in some places it can turn a trespassing charge into a breaking and entering charge or burglary tool possession.

On the other hand, It can be easily hidden on site in case shit hit the fan.

Depending on the price, I might get one.

Well anything can get you in trouble in the wrong place but I hope everyone out there will use good judgement in its use. Glad you enjoy it!

What price range are you thinking? Sheath/case?

Based on production costs it is looking like it will be in the $100 - $150 range, likely closer to the low/middle of that estimate. It won't have a sheath as its not a knife and that would just add another step before you could get to and use it. I do have an idea of connecting them together when not in use in a way that will be fast and easy to separate so we'll see what happens ;)

I really like that design. It's great that it can be separate or together. I would consider it for sure.

add gunblue to them. I would never ever ever carry a stainless prybar; you WANT someone to see that???

The main problem I can see with it is the pricing. Like someone else mentioned, that tool can turn trespassing into B&E in many places. While it could be hidden on site, there is no guarantee that one could return to the site to retrieve it after being escorted off the premises. It would need to be cheap enough to afford a loss, and frankly, I don't think most of us could afford to lose $100 in a single exploration, or even a dozen.

Still, the design looks to be quite useful and easy to conceal, so it does look like an excellent tool. I would recommend finding a way to lower the price of production once you have the means to do so.

You've been on here for longer than I have, and your latest contribution is a B&E tool?

How long does it take for the CNC to spit one out? It looks like something you could fabricate on a Bridgeport milling machine but of course, it would cost a lot more than a hundred bucks with all the extra time it'd take. Also, how does removing material (ball-end groove) make the tensile-strength of steel stronger? If it's some kind of physics equation, fine, but usually removing material weakens the object. What are the tolerances in the horseshoe where they link? It'd have to be minimal for them to lock tightly without being sloppy. Have you looked into powder-coating as well?

I like the concept and the design, but at only 11" in length - does it offer enough leverage if you really need to start prying something with a lot of force?

I propose a third, additional dog-bone-shaped extension for the middle, which can be purchased extra, adding another 8-12 inches to the product. Of course there must be a free nylon/Velcro holster with a clip or loop for one's belt and a carry-sack with drawstrings.

Looks simple and effective! But at that price I'd never buy one. That could be because I'm Dutch though

I'd be WAYYY too nervous of it being construed as a B&E tool to even consider taking that exploring. Moreso, in hundreds of outings I've never even once contemplated the need for a pry bar. Cool idea, but not for UE.

I also think the cost is Far too steep for what it is. I'd go with powder coated mild steel for anything but a marine / dive application. Cheaper, more durable, easier to machine, and it might allow you to hit a price point where someone may actually buy. For anywhere close to $100 it better include a holster.

That being said I commend your efforts and hope you're able to make some changes and get this off the ground. Keep hustlin yo
