| | | thinking about an explore i want to do when this idea popped into my head... i've seen communities that share stuff for people to use that don't have what's needed - could be cars, tools, etc. - and i thought i'd propose a similar idea for UER members so basically anyone that wanted could donate old, unused equipment to UER which a senior member would be responsible for if another member needed something for a trip, they could borrow it and then ship it back when they were done i'm thinking stuff like cameras, climbing gear, photo lights, tools, rubber boots, etc. to avoid someone borrowing and not returning items, there could be criteria they would have to meet, such as being a full member for x time and have donated x dollars and have attended an event, so at the very least their UER membership and reputation is at stake i'm also thinking along the lines of a UER GoFundMe campaign...

| Since when is a camera necessary for a trip? God knows I've made my share of photography trips, but that's because I have a camera and I know how to use it. If you really NEED an unfamiliar, unreliable camera, go to the closest pawn shop and drop thirty bucks and you're done without having to worry about postage. And climbing gear? Really??? I mean, I would lend mine to someone who I was with so I could see that they were using it properly, but honestly, mailing climbing equipment to someone I don't know in another part of the country, I would pretty well assume the user would die in it and now I have to buy shit all over again. Thanks, I'll pass. Exploring isn't this complicated, we don't need to establish our own rental equipment shop - there are plenty out there already. If all you have is a flashlight, you're probably set. Find some friends, find a local community, have a group that can pool resources if they REALLY NEED to, but there will NEVER be an established UER Urbex Gear Rental Shop. | | | It's a great idea, but totally impractical here. If you fly up from Tejas and end up in Bawlimer, Murdaland you will want a kayak. How does one get a kayak for a day or 3 when in Bawlimer? Regardless of such a system, you need a decent reputation to be a borrower. If I don't know you, I shan't lent you my kayak. Ditto anything else. Along with such a system, you'd need a mechanism to verify identity and a more solid reputation system. Furthermore, if I lend you a set of tools and you then use them to go do some scrapping or B&E, I may be complicit or a conspirator in your crime. Nothanks. This works for some things ... doubt it could ever work for UE. But nice idea. Posted by Misunderstood New Ideas are great. If they make sense. Im sorry if i was a little harsh to exman...but, Really!?!? If his profile age is correct, i would assume he was old enough to have accumulated useable things for himself. Just take me out to the whipping post...im misunderstood remember..lol.

| | | In all seriousness, I see the fellowship and the heart behind the idea. Is it practical, not really when you consider ebay and amazons prices. Most explorers with a few notches in their belt know a flashlight, and somewhere to go is all you need, A flashlight to get you through the night is under 5$ at any drugstore, A camera really isnt necessary, and lets be honest no one is going to donate a decent Nikkon, Olympus or Cannon to something like this, you'd have a pile of kodak easy share point and shoot cameras... once again, something you could pick up for under 20$ on ebay, and then it would be yours forever. Boots and clothing, go to a local goodwill.. As for climbing gear.. if the place your going requires anything more than gloves and some rope... then you probably already have Semi pro, or pro gear. Finally. there are some people on this site with full member status I wouldn't trust to hold a sandwich, let alone gear... I would honestly say for 90% of the UER memberbase is just exploring old buildings, and 9 times out of 10 you dont need much for that, yeah draining and whatnot needs a little more gear but like I said, most of that gear can be procured from a goodwill or cheaply online
Your hearts in the right place, but its just not practical
