| | | I headed back South with 'Lise and Texas_Butter to hang out with Chuck. Kenfagerdotcom even met up with us, which was pretty rad! We hit up a cheese aging facility first, but i didn't bother taking any photos, as it was pretty boring. We hit up House of Nuns next: 11. 10. 09. 08. Then we returned to The Castle: 07. 06. 05. 04. 03. 02. 01. We then grabbed some grub at The Trinity, an old, abandoned church which was converted into a restaurant. It was pretty damn decent. Original light fixtures, stained glass windows, etc., and the food was pretty great, as well! And to top it off, it's going out of business at the end of the month, so that may end up in our favor. (Not my photos.) If you'd like to check out my first visit (for exploring) to the area and see a few more photos, click here. For the full set on my Flickr, click here. I hope you've enjoyed! Feel free to give me some pointers to improve upon my photography!

| | | Posted by Punchy Yeah, I noticed that. Those books all look like they're bound journals or something. Did you happen to see what they were?
| You know, i never even bothered looking at any of the books. I guess that's what happens when you focus too much on photography and not the actual experience. Next time, for sure. Posted by chuck barkley Most excellent! I'm really diggin number 03. I like the little prologue about lunch at the end. That server was great.
| Thanks, Chuck, but i owe thanks to you for showing me such great spots! The server was definitely great. I hope he finds a good new gig and tones down the hand motions just a bit. That "secret room" is definitely an odd addition(?) Next time, i'm crawling inside. Isn't it just a porch, though? Posted by midnightshadow Absolutely adore that woodwork in the castle! I'm also really digging the lack of graffiti. Gorgeous photos and locations.

Thank you! The woodwork is fantastic! There's a bit of "graffiti" in a couple spots in the place, but overall, it's pretty minimal. I don't even want to take photos of the "graffiti" as it's no more than random nonsense, as in the library. Disappointing.

| I only briefly looked at a few of them. I don't recall exactly, but I think they were law-type books and maybe some medical stuff. I remember thinking they didn't quite fit the venue. My brother spent some time looking through them. I'll have to ask him. Posted by relik That "secret room" is definitely an odd addition(?) Next time, i'm crawling inside. | The one in number 03 is just a porch yeah. But there is the secret room in the attic, which really isn't so secret, depending which way you enter it. Posted by SouthPaw I love that church. It's great to see some of these abandoned buildings re-purposed, rather than falling in on themselves.
| Indeed, the church was repurposed. I see clues that a remodel took place based on some stained glass with new structure built over it. But that would have been several decades ago when it was converted from it's original purpose as a catholic home for the aged. It ended up becoming some sort of convent. For as long as I've been around, I always remembered it as the place where the nuns lived. Why the nuns don't live there anymore, I don't know. In more recent years it has been rented to a church or 2, whose congregations needed a place to meet and worship. One of them was a Hispanic congregation based on stuff inside. It seems to have sat empty for at least a few years now. Decay is just starting to show and this seems to be the first year or 2 that it has been without heat.
