"beyond forest haven" was produced as an educational tool for psychology students and the like - it is not available for purchase anywhere other than the department of mental health (as far as i know at least) and i used my connection of working at a local university here in texas to obtain my own copy...

the trailer is readily available online - i just included it because when i uploaded the film to youtube it broke the trailer out into its own file. that said - by all means share this with anyone you would like to. i understand it would probably piss some people off to know i am sharing this film with people for free but i am also pretty sure the director would be equally, if not more, pleased to know the film is being seen by a wider audience. not that we make up a large demographic of people/viewers but we are certainly a demographic that she may or may not have known would be so interested in seeing it.

Thank you so much for posting this insulinguy! & Thanks also to this brave woman for going back and telling her story. Had to stop after her visit with her old admitting psychiatrist, but will definitely watch all the parts in there entirety. Its Definitely time that these stories be told and understood.

First of all, thank you for posting those. I had to keep pausing and returning, but I got through all 4 episodes of the KPPC doc.

This may ruffle some feathers, but I have heard a lot from the side of the disability advocates etc. over the years. Their side of the story is basically that Deinstitutionalization has been an unqualified success. The KPPC doc definitely calls that notion into question. As bad as being committed to King's Park was, being sent to prison - which is mainly how we deal with schizophrenics today - is magnitudes worse. In the end, the narrator (who was excellent) acknowledges that, despite its shortcomings, Kings Park not only kept her alive but also gave her the strength to face things that frighten her. In an unintended way Kings Park cured her.

Great doc - I'll try to watch the Foresthaven one tomorrow.

Going to watch the Kings Park Documentary. I live about 35-38 minutes away from that place and I have been going there for years. A great explore, although parts of it now are trashed The documentary was filmed before things got too destroyed inside the buildings.
