My story starts at around 8PM this Saturday. I'm watching the Penguins-Sabres game at home when I get a text from an old friend from across town, telling me to meet him and a friend of ours at the dollar store. Shortly there after I get a text from another friend asking if I can try to get someone to buy them two cases of beer. As I try to set up for someone to buy me a case, I've realized I've missed much of the first half of the 2nd period so I resign myself to the fact I won't be able to finish the game. I get up and go to my car to drive to meet my friends and possibly pick up some beers for my other friend's girl's soccer party...Little did I know what a strange path my night would take. Things did not develop all that quickly as not too long after I got in my car, I got a text from my guy saying he's at work and can't get me any beer, and once me and my two friends meet outside the dollar store we soon realize we are at a loss for things to do and places to go. I eventually offer to take them to a local abandoned school campus which we spent the good part of an hour trying to access without luck. With their interests in exploring sparked I bring up a long abandoned radar base that was once apart of the city's NIKE system, that I'm interested in, which they actually knew about as they could see it from their old elementary school. We decide to take the 30+ minute trek out to the base to poke around a bit, despite it being about 9:30PM. We arrive astonished to find the base, which I had read had been closed since 1967, partially lit up. It had some exterior lights, lighting up the radome, a red light atop the radome. Given the fact it had been out of operation for so long and up on a hill in the middle of buttfuck nowhere, I just casually assumed that the red light was just a warning light for planes, and that the contractors I saw there a few months ago were only doing structural maintenance or inspection. Well even though I was obviously wrong and it was obviously active, we got out of my car that I had parked in the lot next to the dek hockey rink across the street, and walked across the street. My two friends, both of which had never been there started reading the signs about it being an army instillation and how anyone found on the grounds will be searched. They quickly said we should head back to the car, and I just casually told them to chill because the signs had always been there. During this discussion outside the front fence a large light on the side of the tower comes on. We eventually notice it but we where unsure if it had already been like that when we got there. I decided to start walking up the road towards the large open gate which lies farther back from the front fence, while my friends hang back, skeptical of getting any closer. They try to discourage me from getting any closer so I look back and tell them not to worry about it. Then I turn back towards the building and realize another large light is now on. Me now standing as far through the gap of the open gate as I can without crossing in the path, am still several hundred yards from the base of the building. We all realize that even though there is not a circle of light cast of me, the lights are pointed at me. I for some reason, not at all frightened, lean as far forward as I can and squint to try to make out whats the source of these massive lights. I see nothing and head back to my friends; one of which was now peeing in the grass, and happening to be facing the building.... We cross the street and head back to my car. Once we arrive at my car we see that there are 2 more large lights coming from the building tower under the radome. We all realize that all 4 light are pointed directly at my car which is at a far different angle to the building then to where I was standing earlier. We drive the opposite way we came, and aimlessly drive down the deserted roads in the desolate area for about 15 minutes, to distance ourselves from the building before we headed back home. Several times throughout the aimless driving we could see the structure, which now had it's exterior completely lit, top to bottom. So us three 17 and 18 year olds decided to do the only thing three kids our age who put an army base on high alert can do, and we pick up another friend and drive to Sheetz to get food at 11:30 at night. This place was on my bucket list so I've had to decide to let a dream die so that I don't. Being a UE martyr sounds really counter productive. Atleast my friend can now say that for a tiny period of time his dick was a matter of national security and apart of the war on terror.
