Got a trespassing ticket, hesitant to get back on the horse

I recently got a trespassing ticket for being caught in Camp 30 in Ontario. It was just some really bad luck. But I'm almost hesitant to start exploring buildings again, because the second fine is higher if caught again. What would you do?

Try some low key areas like drains until your more confident again about it. Lots of cool stuff in the underground

Well, you're now a little wiser for the experience. After I got busted I laid low for a while then gradually eased back into it.

Generally speaking, trespassing is a misdemeanor and not the sort of charge that should negatively affect future (private sector) employment. That being said, I do know a person who racked up several trespassing charges and it did interfere with their employment opportunities in government.

So consider the possibility, should you get busted again, of hiring a lawyer to keep a second trespassing charge off your record.

In my 10 years of exploring I've never had a ticket. I always go out with the though that if I get one, it will be a fair entrance price for all of the places I've explored for free. I don't know how high yours was and how much the 2nd will be, but if you divide the price by the number of buildings you've explored I'm sure it's not that bad. If it's one of your first explores, it's just bad luck or you have to be a bit more careful the next times. That raise you'll get the 2nd time is a good motivator to be more stealthy.

And by the way, you're a lady, that should make it easier to talk yourself out of trouble

I'm not sure how things in Canada/Ontario works, but i recommend going to the court case and explaining yourself. That's what i did after getting my first trespassing ticket, and they ended up dropping it since it was my first offense. Worth a shot! Good luck!

A first offense is usually something like $50 for the ticket and another $50 for the court fees, but if you were to ask a lawyer how to expunge your record, he's probably going to tell you it'll cost thousands of dollars. Am I a Debbie Downer, or what?

"Expunging your record" sounds pretty pricey. Getting one to defend you at your trial and get the charge reduced to something that doesn't appear on your record in the first place? Not nearly as pricey.

In Ontario a trespassing ticket is the same as a speeding ticket, it's a civil thing so you don't end up with a criminal record. I would just pay it and call it the price of admission.

Sounds pretty solid advice. I've been exploring for upwards of 6 years now and it's my first ticket. So I'm doing well I guess.

This. Pay it or go to court and plead your case. Either way, it's a speed bump. If you like this hobby, you run the risk of getting caught. The trick with urban exploring is to minimize that risk and keep the police guessing.

This is EXACTLY what I tell people when they ask me if I am afraid of getting ticketed/arrested while exploring.

It can be quite easy, it's also easier to talk your way onto the property that way. Let's see how much more stealthy I can get

Great idea. Don't listen to this guy.

The only time you should ever run is if you have either a head start and you know you can get away or you haven't been found yet and you know you can get away.

Running isn't a bad idea if it's unarmed security. If it's the police, either hide in a closet or show yourself to them.

Depends how risky the spot is. I've talked to owners who saw me go through a fence and they were kind about it. Other times, it's worth running/hiding if you know the prop owner calls for arrests rather than mere tickets. I've never gotten either, and I hope not to.
