Ellis Island added a tour for the unrestored parts of the site.

It sounds like fun to me. Did anyone here go last time it was offered? How was it?

Went on this tour first day it was offered this time around, pretty disappointed. The buildings are now, for the most part, fully abated.
The tour guide is only interested in showcasing the various "pastings" of JN which just ruined it for me. Each time I'd pause to take a photograph the tour guide would say, "That's not what you want a photograph of, I'll show you what you really want photos of" extremely disrespectful.

those 'pastings' look like utter lame shit. whoever thought that idea was worth anything should be lined up and shot. fortunately there's a couple of good series of photos of this place before it got assraped by the abatement crowd. Work by Christopher Barnes is the best, there's also some other guy who did a book about the island (though it's derivative and filled with utter textual rubbish, the photos themselves are pretty decent - shot on large format).

Yes, they should have left it abandoned to eventually collapse on itself.

if they wanted to do hardhat tours, the time for that would have been in the 80s or 90s. I am glad it is getting saved, but anything really interesting, artistic, or unique, is long gone from this location. Fortunately Barnes and the other guy (among others) got in there and did some good shooting ahead of that. There was also some interesting books published by the US Govt. even earlier, showcasing the status and decay of the place. The pics were all just snapshot/documentation quality and reproduced in B&W (not very well). Publications were by the US Park Service or another government agency inventorying the place. This was in the late 70s / early 80s I believe. A good college library will have them.

I was thinking about it, I'm still up in the air. I don't like to be rushed. A friend of mine just did it and said it wasn't nearly as good as he was hoping.

I also don't want to shell out $45.00 to see a empty building with "art" put up all around.

I went March 7th and liked it. Plus, my tour guide was kinda cute.

I was debating on doing this. I may rethink this now as it sounds kind of disappointing.

I went, thought it was okay. Must have had the same guide as Anatonic because the guy kept telling me what to take photos of.
