On Saturday two friends and I went to explore an abandoned hospital. I'd scouted it a good few times in the last 2 months. It's right on a main road with a security post so I was pretty nervous. btpp actually beat me to this site by about a month. It was crazy seeing a thread posted here on a new site I was looking at. He's got a great video of his explore on Youtube and an awesome thread from not too long ago.
It opened in 1950 as a tuberculosis facility and closed in 2012. It was very clean inside. There was evidence of mild squatting and a bit of graffiti. I'm certain people have been in there recently because there were things that had moved since btpp took his shots.
I had trouble with the lighting, I was trying not to use flash and didn't bring a tripod. A lot of my shots were ruined by camera shake from long exposure. The security seemed to be absent. I only realized this when we left, unfortunately. This was my first time in a site like this. I found myself feeling a certain reverence for the building, almost like being in a cemetery. I sometimes felt like we were being rude when we made noise or someone made a joke. This feeling only intensified when we reached the children's floor. I started to think of all the staff and patients that spent portions of their lives within it's walls. I was really able to see why I love exploring so much. It's a strange way to study history. We ran out of time but we're going again soon.

Nice pics though, I'm surprised you didn't run into security as saturday was the same day of the week we were there and a guard was patrolling all day. Did you explore any of the periphery buildings? I hear one of them is a research lab but we didn't have the chance to check it out.

Haha, you're right. Sorry for the snub. We went through the nurse's quarters but those were pretty boring. I'll have to check out the research lab next time. I couldn't believe security wasn't there. I did recon on this place 5 or more times before getting to the main building and they were always posted up there.

Damn, thats a lot of recon, takes more patience than what I have to resist going in for that long. I believe the lab is the building just to the southeast of the main wing if you want to check it out.

I think andyhal hit this site about a year ago.

EDIT: I remember this place. Surprised there was no security. I hit this place aBout 2 years ago. Was in pristine shape back then.

Sad news. I just found out that they began demolition on this site yesterday. I'm really disappointed I didn't get more time in there. So much left unexplored.

Yeah it has been one of my favorite explores so far. It's a shame that it is being demolished, especially so soon after it closed.

Very cool! I can relate to the feeling of needing to be reverent at some locations.

Glad to see you could document it so soon to its demolition. One time I was planning on visiting a 20-year-abandoned building near me, and some arsonists torched it the day before I was planning to go. I still kick myself over that.

Honestly thats a very well naturally lit hospital, wow. I bet that would've been a nicer place to stay back when it was good. I wonder how thick those textured windows are to not have been shattered out yet?
