Underground Copper Mine

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to share some photos of an underground copper mine I've had the privilege of exploring a few times. Lots of interesting things to see underground here and I still have plenty more to see.

So far, the part of a pickaxe, medical station, blasting notification paperwork, signs and the steep incline are the highlights I've taken away from the mine. The incline tracks and previously heard stories suggest a large upper portion of the mine I haven't been able to get to due to wood decay. Stories talk about tools and lunch pails left by the workers from the mine closure.

There is said to be about 5kms of underground workings here which include a few portals. A couple have been closed off and one portal was large enough for mining vehicles, but its still to early for me to tell if it might have connected to mine workings above or below where I have currently been.

The mine is on Vancouver Island

Newer mines like this are awesome, both in size and in leftovers.

I am not to sure on its opening. There are a few other portals around and its a bit confusing on who owned them, their actual names and dates worked.

I believe this/these tunnels were worked in the 60's to the 70's but may have began in the 50's. I just cannot put it all together yet. Previous workers of these tunnels have appeared but information is lacking from them.

This is awesome! Nice to see something that isn't riddled with collapses and still has a bit of equipment left over.

Absolutely. Feels nice to see something that isn't all destroyed or lost forever. Not much evidence of explorers in here either which is nice to see.

Ahh the hidden places of Vancouver Island! It seems for every 1 mine you know about, there are like 3 that you dont. Its pretty fun to hunt around and see what you can find!
