[part 1]
September 20-21
The original plans had been for me and one other person to explore the Terrence Tower on Saturday, the 20th of September. Although neither of us had managed to correctly judge the size of what we were getting ourselves into, and heading home after a walk around the building and decided on getting some other people to come with us.
So, later that day I set to finding convincing some friends to come, which turned out to be surprisingly easy once I told them to Google 'Terrence Tower'...apparently the two I asked both had the same fascination with the building and were ecstatic with me inviting them.
Jump forward to 1:30pm Sunday, September 21. There's 4 of us standing in the back of the building putting on respirators, checking to make sure there's no security coming up behind us, and then going in.
We started on the 1st floor and worked our way up to the 3rd before we decided to go straight up to the roof and work out way down. Although this involved climbing up about 12 flights of stairs in respirators. (Which didn't go well for me, I ordered new filters as soon as I got home)
Now of course, all of us were currently just set on getting up there, and we completely forgot how windy it was until we got to the roof. In hindsight maybe going up there after only 30 minutes in the building wasn't really a good idea, considering how much we stood out with bright purple filters in our hands and about 175 feet in the air and the entire rest of the building to look at.
From there we started our slow descent, and looking for a chair. At this point I realized that I had forgotten to charge my camera battery and a replacement for my aux was still on it's way here. So I became incredibly selective in what I was shooting, because I still had to get that shot with the chair.
Although the battery did manage to pull through for me to get these shots of some familiar names written on a chalkboard in one of the classrooms.
And then my camera got to the point where it wouldn't even stay on long enough to take more than 2 photos before shutting down. So we gave up on taking a chair and decided to just have him stand in the room.
By then we had spent 2 hours in there and were all getting starting to get tired, so we decided to bugger off and come back later. My camera only lived to take one more photo, which was pure luck that we found something good to use on our way out.
The last 2 pictures I took where with my phone, not as high quality as my camera, but still decent enough to be a stand-in.
With that we went back to the POE and then went our own ways, with plans to return later and cover more of the building.
Later parts will come later in the month, hopefully we'll be done before Halloween, because none of us want to deal with some weird satanic kids messing around in the place when we're trying to get decent shots. (Well okay I guess we're all collectively not supposed to be in there, but I'd rather be caught trespassing than being accused of doing some freaky ritual in the basement)
