If I happened to meet the owner and he says it's fine that I'm in his building, taking photos (which happened in Philly at the Goldtex tower at 12th & Pearl), than I'm not trespassing, but I'm STILL pursuing UE.
I'm merely "hanging out with friends" and all the other shit is secondary.

Being a trespasser can mean the exact same thing as being an urban explorer. No, it is not the case all the time, but it often is. All of us know that we are often trespassing when exploring, it just depends on what you want to call it. In my opinion, urban exploring just covers all of our hobby, while trespassing covers some or most of it and much more which I wouldn't call urban exploring.

WTF man? What happened to "Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footsteps."?
If you don't adhere to theses rules, you are just a criminal, not an urban explorer. And in that case you deserve and should definitely get into huge loads of shit with security and cops!

Oh, look, somebody who's both woefully naive AND more Catholic than the pope. That's always fun.

Anyway, nothing happened to "take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints" because it's only ever been a guideline and not some foundational principle, like a Commandmant writ large on a stone tablet or some such.

Got news for ya pal: everybody who's been on abandoned property without express permission from the owners...is a criminal. As to the nature of the criminality in question, that depends on what you're doing on the premises, what you did to get into the premises, and so on.

I'm not even sure what specifically you object to. It's as if you think you're some kind of better person for never having to take a slightly more invasive step than simply walking through an open doorway. Fact of the matter is, usually, that's just you profiting off of the risk somebody else took however long ago to open the way. Where you might see virtue, I just see laziness or perhaps even cowardice when you add in your sanctimonious, judgmental drivel. Take that story walking son, ain't got time for that.

If I'm to believe your profile, you're fairly young, so I'll chalk it up to youthful inexperience; I don't even particularly dislike you much other than the attitude and wishing cops down upon me; but if you're looking for somewhere to be holier than thou, you should try a church. Just not the abandoned ones I might be in.

Posted by Eagle_CrowI have dug up plants from a place that was to be demolished, you just know some fool in an excavator was gonna run them over, so why not bring them to my garden?

What kind of plants we replanting? That would also declare the type of crime one would possibly commit

I really like the term "roof and tunnel hacking" because it emphasizes the challenge of gaining entry, the "hacking". But sometimes there is no challenge of gaining entry. And sometimes it's not roofs and tunnels that you're hacking.

Trespassing works just fine. Anything more to it, the photography, sense of wonder, curiosity, whatever you want to tack on to make UE different from "mere trespassing" is going to be subjective and vary between explorers.

"Illegal Curiosity." Beautiful... I'm gonna name my airship that.

If you hit active sites, you gain more street cred. I do medical design for a doctor. He's the CEO of a little upstart design company, and he wanted to attend the IEEE convention in SF a few years back. The entry fee was almost a grand per person(!)

So, me and the millionaire doc snuck in like common hoodlums. Infiltration baby : ) Nobody was the wiser. We even snagged some lanyards and faked the badges that we didn't have by tucking them into out shirts.

Just do what you think is fun. Be polite and apologetic when you get caught, and use your own code of ethics when you're thinking about taking something.

God knows there's enough people in this world who need an instruction manual for everything. Sometimes you have to write your own tutorials.
