I'll discuss the matter of the Genesee Hospital first:
A friend of mine works in the city, and I've just recently found out that he works right next to the old Genesee Hospital.

We had plans to go there, but apparently such plans are no more.

A few minutes ago I was told by him that there were construction workers coming in and out of the abandoned building.
And knowing the way the city works, if it's coming down and it's coming down soon.
Although there's been no official announcement, they probably wouldn't say anything until it was gone, so we've assumed it's just safer to just avoid it now.


Now, about the abandoned subway:
There's plans for it now.
And they're not good.
These plans involve building an apartment complex right where the Court St. entrance currently is.
While yes, there will still be 2 other access points, one involves walking a mile to get to the main aqueduct section and the other involved climbing down an 8 ft wall. Neither are as ideal as the main one was.
The company planning to do this is still waiting approval, but if they get it they will start building as soon as early 2015.

To quote the article, "There is only one abandoned subway like ours in the country, perhaps the world. Why would anyone in their right mind trade such a strong source of local identity and excitement for a handful of overpriced bedrooms?"

An update on the Genesee Hospital:

I went there today alone, just in case someone would be there to stop me from going in. The previous entry points have been blocked off and I had to crawl my way in.

I did hear someone talking when I was on the top floor, and I heard their footsteps in the stairwell, but never ran into whoever it was so I assume it was just another explorer.

Otherwise, there weren't any changes to the building. So I can only assume it's still in the early stages of whatever's going to happen to it.

I need apologize and make correction to my last update,

The building is not "unchanged". I was there 2 weeks ago just to see if I could scout out an entry point, and when I did peek inside I just saw a large empty space and assumed that's how it's been for a while.

It's now occurred to me that the the most recent photos in the LDB show equipment still being there, and it not being just a lot of large empty spaces.

To be exact, the interior is completely stripped.
The only real "equipment" that's still there is the elevator lift mechanism and controls.

These plans have been in the works for quite some time now. Most of Genesee had been demolished a while back. My mother was a nurse there about 15 years ago & she loved that hospital.

Looking at your pictures though, my construction background is telling me that the remaining buildings are being converted for use into something else, and its always better for an old building to find new life, than to succumb to the wrecking ball.
