What lies in the horizon for the future of urban exploration and others like us?

My expertise is really the history of urban exploration so I would only be guessing what's to come so I couldn't really say.

I'll take this one Dougo.

Future explorers will need to be skilled in detecting and disabling a host of wireless security devices. Those things have gotten so cheap everybody is using them now and in the next few years every abandoned building will have some form of them.

Also, advances in drone technology will make it possible to explore buildings without actually setting foot inside. Already I am seeing remote control camera drones used in Urban Exploration. One makes an appearance in this video:
https://www.youtub...atch?v=I0hsLKhYwig

And speaking of explorers taking flight, it's almost 15 years into the 21st Century and I'm still waiting on my jetpack! Where the F are all the jetpacks??

Couldn't miss it. I've played GTA: SA more than any other game, except maybe NBA jam. I assume you're referencing GTA 5? Because the jetpack is actually in Verdant Meadows in SA.

Dougo,

Do you know anything about the history of the Russian urban explorers who assisted Moscow police during the hostage crisis at the Dubrovka Theatre in 2002? I remember reading a little blurb about it on the timeline section of Ninjalicious' book, but I don't remember there being much information about the event (and my book isn't available at the moment).

Specifically, what I was wondering is:

1. Did they ever get any kind of recognition for their help?
2. Did they continue in the hobby of UE, and did their sharing of information with the police make it more difficult for them to continue their clandestine activities?
3. Did the Moscow cops shake them down, like "if you know THIS, what else do you know?"

PS... I LOVE your "when it rains, no drains" story. The one where you ended up being forced to break out through a manhole you had never used before and wound up in the middle of the street with a car coming. Reading it from the comfort of my computer, it sounds like quite a scary (and thrilling) experience. I figured if I ever talked / wrote to you, I would mention it.

If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire... Tunnelrunner33!

You'd think I'd know the answer to this one, however with all the homeless people I took out to breakfast over the years, I couldn't say for sure if he was one of them.

Thank you for taking the time to construct such a well thought out question.
I will do my best to break it down and answer what I can.

1. Sadly, even though I'm sure they deserved it, I don't really know as I didn't have cable during that period.

2. I heard that there is only one left who goes by the name Mustang Wanted but that would have made him about 8 years old at the time so that's probably not true.

3. I'm not sure, but from what I've heard the Moscow cops were always fair & legit, but who knows?

I hope that helps mate.

Have you seen that episode of South Park called Super Fun Time where the staff in the Pioneer village stay in character no matter how annoying or dangerous (to the stage of getting shot in the head)?

Well that's me in this thread

I don't know what manhole you're talking about son?

Thanks for the question Mansion.

As most of my explores were in the 80's till 2014, I might answer your question with another question:
Was urbex better in the pre-Internet days?
