I was driving up to Guerneville when I stumbled upon this building. Found a way in and decided to take some photos! I apologize for the quality; every photo had to use flash and I only have a Sony Cybershot. Thinking of upgrading once I have the money. I was just so excited to have my first actual discovery although I'm sure some of you have been here already. 1.

Creepy little place. Nice find.

Awesome find and thanks for sharing. I actually had a drink here just 4-5 years ago. I had assumed the building was long gone by now.

I only have a Sony Cybershot.

Those are fine cameras, Redsquare. Do not feel peer pressured by the camera gear that you see some of the other explorers on here use. Urban exploration is about the locations, not about how big your lens is and how much it cost you.

Nice intro with that first shot.

Yep. Recommend a tripod pr just setting the camera on something, turn off the flash, and set a 15 second exposure. Paint in the area with your flashlight (move it quickly back and forth, up and down across the scene).

Nice! This is actually outside of Cotati, I live literally 5 minutes away from this place. I pass it all the time to go to Sebastopol and I've been wanting to check this place out...you beat me to it! I'm impressed

Now you make me want to go and check it out myself really badly. The place has just been sitting there for a while, and there's a restaurant nearby that hasn't been touched for over a year as well down the street from this place. Thanks for sharing your set! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your adventures.

I visited myself and dug up the history with old newspapers and the like I found.

So, this is what I find confusing, on a sign it says it was the Lone Star Café run by Flora Woods in the 1930s. However, the brothel was in Monterey and inspired Joh n Steinbeck's Cannery Row with the fictional Dora Flood and her Bear Flag Restaurant. And there's no evidence of the theatre company that dedicated the sign and the mural is in Monterey. So I'm guessing someone stole the sign and put it up in here.

The newspapers we read through are all from 2009, so we speculate that someone wanted to reopen the tavern only to not have the expenses and left behind the paint cans and the like knowing it won't happen. Some paperwork was filled out but not sent in. So who knows?

Huh, I don't see why someone would put that sign up, unless it was put up while it was still functioning. Now that I think about it, that makes a lot more sense. Still strange. Cool that you did further investigating! I wanted to read that paperwork but I was in somewhat of a hurry.

Also, they seemed to renovate just a single wall before they stopped, which I thought was kind of silly.

I noticed that to it and is. It's so weird. I have no idea, it was on a wall that was still gutted but it was bolted in. The whole place is a mystery. I understand, I'm nosey with files and the like. I read everything haha, but I know how it is being rushed.

I was just there yesterday, and if you explore that surrounding area, there's a scatter of abandonments. It gives the indication of possible future developments , an up for grabs potential investors.
(But what a tickville magnet..)

What a weird find inside that place. I stopped by the bar last weekend. It's still standing abandoned and looks pretty much the same.
