Tittynope, you're a saint.

Please do enlighten us on cameras, though.

I have extensive experience with these.

These are Videofied PIR cameras. They are completely wireless and communicate with a (usually) hidden control box via radio frequency. Control boxes are also wireless and have a self contained power source. Once a device is activated, the control box sends a 10 second HD video clip of the intruders over a cell signal to a third party monitoring company who alerts the owner/police. The camera can see 110 degrees wide. The sensor can detect 90 degrees wide and trips from as far out as 40 feet. Stock batteries can last up to 4 years. Devices have a microswitch that depresses once they are mounted to the wall and if the microswitch releases (i.e. is torn off the wall) it sends a distress signal to the control box to call for immediate help.

The thing about these systems, though, is that once the control box is destroyed, the devices become useless. There is no way to tell if the system is active or not unless you test it. I recommend doing a very quick run through and attempt to activate several devices then hurry up and leave and stake it out from a safe place and see if anyone responds.

These are Videofied PIR cameras...

These used to be all over a big local mill, they are easily mistaken for motion sensors. The first time I spotted one, there's probably a video of me walking up and then my eyeball getting reeeealy close to the pinhole lens before I realize "oh hey, there's a camera in there too!".

Turn off the internet and go play outside.
