I've been seeing photos of this place for some time now, but never gave it much thought, or even where it was. I mean I had some rough idea where, but this past Saturday proved that sometimes you just run across these places.

1.

2.

Driving across the Niagara Region, following the trail of several War of 1812 battlefields took me on a road that I hadn't been to before, above the falls, and I come across this brick building, and first throught is, well that has to be abandoned. So I park my car, grab the gear and strike out.

3.

4.

At first glance, it's not much, just some long brick building with some details on it to indicate that this once served a purpose. Probably built in the late 1940s early 1950s. A gaggle of tour buses sit in the driveway, probably bringing tourists to nearby casinos. Thankfully I followed another way onto the property that put be behind the buses.

5.

6.

It was only until I was inside that I realized that this was the place with the iron spiral staircase that I've seen pop up so many times in the Ontario Regional forum.

7.

8.

Overall, not a bad explore, a respite from the rain that was on and off all day. Gave me a good three quarters of an hour inside before having to move on.

9.

10.

Will certainly have to go back with a 4x5 or a medium format camera, this place would look stunning on B&W film.

11.

12.

13.

Sadly I never really figured out what this place was, I think it was some form of substation or related to the railroad next to it.

Now that's a little beauty! I'm going to be nearby soon (at least I think i will be...) so might have to track it down and have a look.
