I've been wandering into abandoned structures for over 30 years and think it's humorous name-dropping is frowned upon the most publicized and trampled locations, especially with permission - but your house your rules. Therefore I've done some subtle things to a few images to avoid people finding out what it is. Most of you know the spot anyway. Though my first visit, from what I've seen of images captured in earlier years, the location lost some of its luster with degeneration of the human variety. Many items has been removed but the place still retains much of the old magic. If they do half of the renovation they hope to, I'm looking forward to seeing the urban planning and architectural design that'll be necessary for this campus. I hope they do it right. I'm working it out with the current owner for a more extensive trip so I'll be in PA again.

I have doubts about the renovation happening here.

Renovation? It was all done for the scrap metal from the looms. Just look what happened to the Divine Lorraine under the guise of "renovation"? That shit was gutted to the studs then abandoned yet again.

I'm not from the area, but that makes sense - gutting scraps for profit is no different than what's happening at many locations nationwide. If they -were- actually serious a successful renovation of that scope is unlikely as I couldn't discern any real economic driving force in the area that would merit such a project. Even in areas that are more viable there's a small chance of success. Could see at most maybe a building or two being mitigated and renovated, but it'd have to be out of love for the building and region as any profit wouldn't be for a couple decades.

I've spoken with the owner. Sounds like he has big plans for the place. Apartments. Artist space. Retail space. Two bars. When you do a tour with him he speaks in each area what it will be in the future. He sounds serious. But who knows.

The owner does seem to be serious about renovation from what I've read and seen and those that know him. I wouldn't trash him. After all, the fire that started there recently was BECAUSE they are working on it, IE, not letting it rot and fall apart. I approve.

The whole place is gutted. There is one loom room left that will be left for restoration. It is nothing like it was before. The current owner is VERY serious about turning this into a commercial place. Is it doable? Yes, but its not like it was years ago and it doesn't have even 10% of what was there.

Absolutely agree. I think it could be so much more than what's planned if the owner had more respect for what it was.

Ha, this is obviously the best way to avoid name dropping in photos!

As for the renovation thing. I have gotten to the point that hearing a location is being renovated, makes me cringe. After seeing so many "renovations" go arie, I'm hesitant to consider any renovations, as positive.
