What happened to flickr?

So I noticed that flickr has decided to merge with yahoo or something. Anyway, for some reason I can't log into my account, all I can do is create a new yahoo account, which then creates a new flickr account. Very confusing and unnecessary. Anyone else experience this?

It was a global change for every user. When you create a new email address you can link it up with your existing old account and continue as normal.

I had issues with it and contacted them but then didn't feel like following through only to come back to it a couple weeks later and find they changed the way to do it and I was able to do it with no problems. If you can't figure it out on your own or it just won't work you might have to contact yahoo's customer service. it's been a ridiculous headache.

I'm increasingly getting fed up with flickr, their website works like shit and their yahoo integration is ridiculous. I'd have switched to 500px already if not for monthly bandwidth / upload limit.

Flickr is actually working better for me now that they've changed it again. At least it's easier to get the url code. Still a bit confusing though it was perfect the way it used to be!

Flickr accounts and Yahoo accounts have been one and the same for almost a decade.
Where does your confusion lie?

In other words, anyone who creates a Yahoo email account automatically creates a corresponding Flickr account under that same user name and password. (whether you use separate Flickr accounts or not, for privacy reasons, that is entirely up to you)

For example, if I created an account on Yahoo or Flickr called "YOLO123", then that account is now doubled for you... on both Yahoo.com and Flickr.com.

And so, I guess that is just Yahoo's way of saying they are giving you a photo backup service, which just happens to be complimentary to your Yahoo email account.

To test this, go to either Yahoo.com or Flickr.com... and sign in the same way. depending on your preference of which website you want to use.

ALL DONE

Any questions, just PM me.

^I think the issue is that you used to be able to create an account and sign in using your facebook or gmail account instead of a yahoo account. Now they've done away with the outside linking and you can ONLY sign in using a yahoo account. That means people like me who never made a yahoo account and created my flickr account using my gmail and have been logging into flickr through gmail have now had to make a new yahoo account to attach to the flickr account to so that I may still be able to log onto it.

The fact that making a new yahoo account automatically makes a new flickr account is the problem. If you have a flickr but no yahoo ID then you need to make a yahoo ID and attach it to your flickr. You can't attach the yahoo ID to your flickr if when you make it a new flickr is automatically created. Even if you delete that new flickr it just makes a new one.

For some reason an issue stemmed in my account because I used the same alternative e-mail on my flickr account as I did on the yahoo account I created. I changed that and then made a new yahoo account following links yahoo sent me in an e-mail to do so and it worked.

Despite all the changes flickr is still one of the best image hosting sites out there imo. Who can argue with a free terabyte of space?

Well, then what are your test results? I certainly can't vouch for you, considering that your ideas are about new Yahoo procedures... versus the fact that I am from the "old school" territory, in regards to the rule of:
"Make a Yahoo account = Made a Flickr account!"

^well he's asking about the new procedures, not the old ones. Seems like they went full circle though. Your account is from 2009. You said back then you made a flickr account and got a yahoo account. Mine is from 2012. When I made mine you didn't need a yahoo account. You could make a flickr account using gmail or facebook which is what I, and everyone else who didn't want to make a yahoo account did. Now they're changing it again to link flickr accounts only to yahoo accounts. Creating the yahoo account when you've got a pre-existing flickr without one and linking the two together is the issue. I'm assuming the original poster got the same message I did when they switched their system.

Like I said, I followed a link to do it once and failed miserably, didn't bother with it for awhile and then randomly tried it again and it worked. That e-mail link didn't work for me but when signing in last I was prompted on the flickr page to make a yahoo account and that did work for me.

here's a link to yahoo's help page: https://io.help.ya..._US&y=PROD_FLICKR#

If you choose 'password and sign in" and then 'Google or Facebook sign in issues' you get a few options. If none of that works you'll just want to e-mail their customer service.

Bummer. Sorry to hear that, DawnPatrol.

All of your issues sound like issues reserved for Flickr technical specialists. I have never heard of this issue cropping up when relating to people within the Flickr posting community.

If you want help, definitely do NOT use the resource you posted, but use my Flickr link, instead. That link takes you directly to Flickr users, which are actually way more helpful!

I did post there before I bothered with yahoo customer service and it seemed like a lot of people had the same problem but no one knew what to do. The only advice I got was to contact customer service lol. That was over a month ago though so maybe they've smoothed things over a little more now since I had the issue and there's an easier fix.
