The DFW Meet n' Greet used to happen every month.

Robert B ran it for years. When he got married, we rotated hosts for a few months. Then it kinda fizzled out.

I bring up the idea of starting it back up. Others express interest. No one has time to host it. It is more time consuming and more work than one would expect.

We had a DFW meet and greet long before Robert B. and sometimes we didn't even get drunk.

About all you have to do is set up a calendar entry for an Event. People can unsubscribe from it if they don't want to be bothered with notices.

Pick a restaurant, bar (or abandoned building preferably) in the area and post the event its not really that difficult.

I miss the old meet and greets. They use to be a lot of fun.

Hey, it's not just because I got married - she likes urbex too! Mostly it's because I'm going back to school, 30 years after the first time around. Why the hell didn't I learn to take notes in my teens instead of in my thirty-teens?

If anyone gets the urge to do something special, just drop me an email (or a PM, but I don't always get notifications) and I'll update the event listing. The main thing is, we can't let the DFW meetup die... it's the oldest monthly meetup in the system. EventId=16, pretty sweet.

Anyone itching for potatoes this weekend? Not sure if I'll make it - looks like I'll be out of town, though I may get back in the afternoon - but you can't go wrong with the food. Not sure how we'd find each other... just look kind of abandoned, I guess.

When in doubt, set a flashlight on the table

I had been thinking I could put my UER keychain flashlight next to my plate.

February's meetup is on Valentine's Day. I spotted an epic drain (that I'm sure everyone already knew about) on Google Maps, and what could possibly be more romantic than draining on Valentine's Day?

spoiler: probably anything

If you ever want a romantic drain date idea: Go to a nice, safe drain with your S.O., and make it your goal to traverse the full length of the drain without using your flashlights. You'll find yourselves clinging to each other a lot as you "grope" your way about the drain. It's a really cool experience!

Just a reminder: Tomorrow's the day for your romantic drain plans. If underground fireworks aren't your thing, the meetup location is two doors down from an amazing handcrafted chocolaterie, so you can't lose.

I'm going to try to show up. Potato Flats is good (and cheap). Whoever does make it, put a flashlight on your table so we can find each other in the... light...

I made it out to the DFW meetup location around 11:50. Sat at a table just outside the front door and put a flashlight on the table. I hung out until about 12:45. Never saw anyone else, so I went on my way. Potato Flats is one weird restaurant. Apparently for major potato fans. Mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, fried flat potatoes, sandwiches with potato bread. Definitely nothing remotely healthy there! lol

I made it to Potato Flats, only 25 hours late. ;) I hope the low turnout of 1 wasn't a disappointment - it's a bazillion times the usual turnout of zero. But the more we talk about it, the more people might randomly show. Look at it this way: if you invite a friend, you'll increase participation by 100%.

And potatoes are quite healthy - especially sweet potatoes, loaded with vitamin A.

Haha, good point on the attendance statistics. Well, I'll put it on my calendar again and we'll see what happens. No worries on the Potato factory, looks like there are several other choices within walking distance for food anyway, so not a bad place to meet.

As long as it's not a bar, or any other place exclusive to 21+ people, I'm down for it.
