Hi there. Editing this video shot at a psychiatric hospital reminded me of how much I enjoy finding murals when exploring. They are such a tangible memory of the former life of an abandoned space. What murals have you uncovered in your adventures?

Some from the barrack blocks of a local air force base near me, currently under demolition - photos from early 2010. All painted not long before the base closed in 1994.

The base was owned by the USAF during most of it's operational period, then throughout the cold war and until it closed in 1994. It was one of the largest airfields in the country and built like a small American town in the middle of rural Oxfordshire, complete with kerbside fire hydrants, American-style sandwich shops and diners, supermarket, barber, gym/bowling alley, baseball field with bleachers etc etc.

It was a nice spot, had one of my only run ins with the police there a few years back which was fun.

One from another spot, a massive military equipment testing facility demolished a couple of years ago. This was one of my favourite locations I've ever done, it was about two miles away from one of the most famous derelict sites in the UK, closed at the same time as it too but was almost totally ignored by everyone except me and a couple of my mates.

There is a sweet mural to be found at 4'43" into this video. All the TV stars of my childhood...

Royal Crown of Chicago; hit by taggers literally before this Impossible shot could finish developing. Demolished.


Dixie Square Mall; this mural is visible a few times in the Blues Brothers. Demolished though someone saved pieces of it and tried selling them for an unknown price.


Karcher Hotel/rooftop view of downtown Waukegan, IL; they kept it when the building was restored but people keep touching it - it's not nearly in as good of shape, now.



It also prints quite nicely...
