I'd been meaning to check this place out for a while, and was passing through the area with the kids, so we went for a bushwalk and a bit of an explore.

The base was built in 1943, and was operational until the end of the war. The airmen's quarters were repurposed as a clubhouse for the nearby golf course after the war, but the bunkers used by the radar controllers were just left to the elements and generations of kids with spraypaint cans.

The bunkers are pretty close to a bushwalking trail. This plaque shows bushwalkers the historical significance of the site. (If they squint hard enough.)

This first bunker can be seen from the road as you drive by.

The one remaining radar tower.

Peace out!

All photos taken with my little Sony point n shoot. It has a Carl Zeiss lens so that totes makes me a pro photographer.

That was an awesome post, Poppa! I love that you brought the young ones along. Much respect, bro!

Looks like a fun time! Too bad such places are always prone to vandalism, but for the kids this must be quite exciting!

Thanks Ed! They've been asking to come and explore something abandoned for a while and this was a good intro for them I think.

Yeah there's really not much left to them, but its still a fun walk discovering them all. They're spread out over a couple of acres. My son described it as "creepy in a good way" haha.
