Finally got my money in and upgraded my Digital camera. I have been using an old D100 and just bought a D3100 kit. I have seen the images from the 3100, and they are nice. This should help improve my shots, as I do good with the 100, so they should be better with the 3100.

Your camera is pretty much not going to improve your shots. Resolution will be improved. But your photography will not. Such a misnomer that equipment "improves" a photographer. The biggest load of bull you can ever hear.

If you take good shots with your older camera. You'll take good shots with your new one. Or anything else you use. Because. You know how to take a photograph.

The camera I use. Can fit in my pocket. And lenses are half the size of any dslr lens. It's like a thick iPhone. With a lens.

So. Congrats on your new toy. Enjoy it and use it well. But don't think it makes a difference on how you take an image. Or compose a shot. Your gear is the smallest portion of making a great image.

The new camera can improve picture quality in size, resolution and color. If I take the same picture with a 7 year old camera and a brand new one using the same lens, there will be a different in image quality. Not much, but some.

true enough. And going from a D100 to a D3100 is a good amount of difference.
