| | | In the last 10 yrs Ive had many run ins with the law, almost all narrowly escaped on foot or bike, except one night when myself, 5 other dudes and a dog were having an impromtu party/graffiti sesh on a lowrise rooftop in the city. Unaware were we that the store below had people asleep inside - we truely woke them up and the 5-0 showed up, trapped us on the roof with no escape and off we went to lockup. They took it pretty serious. We all got different charges but I got a count of graffiti and trespass. One cock and bull story later and the judge throws the case out. That was about 6-7 yrs ago and I clearly havent learnt - still fucking around on other peoples property. Since then Ive learnt not to be to worried about dealing with the cops. If they turn up I always make the quick decision to either hightail it, or try to reason with them. The latter works surprisingly well too often. Recent example includes last month, just before leaving Australia, I held a big selloff sale of my artwork in a huge abandon in the centre of town. As expected the cops show up eventually. They didnt like I was welcoming the public to trespass into a fairly decrepit building, but certainly not a fan of me selling booze without a licence. Almost so much that they overlooked the trespass issue! Smooth talked my way out of it as a celebration of "pop up art urban vibrancy buzzwords" etc and they let me off with a heavy warning. Cops always makes for great stories and mixing up the mundane adventures with a bit of excitement. 344817.jpg (90 kb, 533x270)

| | | I've had a couple of run-ins with the law over here, luckily not ended badly....yet! My first was on a huge old air force base which was one of my 'local' sites, we had finished up in one of the barrack blocks and my mate looked out the window and said 'there's a police car driving around outside'. My other mate totally dismissed it as him seeing things but a few minutes later as we made our way out the car pulls up alongside us, couple of officers get out and ask us a few questions, search us for stolen property, we get given the search forms and that was that - as we were good boys we didn't have anything on us Also hidden in a small room on the top floor of a hospital whilst two police officers and the security guard searched the place for me and my mate, they didn't find us! Although the best was in France last July, rolled up to this massive derelict mill building at about 4.30am just as it was getting light, and about an hour in I spot three figures dressed in dark clothing walking across the no mans land towards the boundary fence...and not wanting to be stuck in a total deathtrap of a location with police looking for us we decide to head to ground level and see what's what. Outside the building we couldn't see much but suddenly three police officers round a corner of the building in front of us, quickly followed by three more, then two more appear from nowhere. As soon as they saw we had tripods and camera gear it was all laughs and smiles, and luckly for us one spoke very good English - and she just happened to be a total babe as well! We weren't even asked for ID or searched or anything, just told to leave - and when we got back to the car we found it boxed in by three police cars with a slightly disgruntled looking officer sat watching over it!

| | | Based on all these stories, mine seems insane. I was exploring an abandoned factory in the city next to mine. This place has been blown the fuck up on social media and is hardly a secret. The first time I visited, there was a group of middle aged men (30s-40s) playing ball hockey in the parking lot. Anyways, I go inside and explore a bit. I'm taking photos here and there and basically just walking around. The place is a dump and everything has been vandalized. I guess I had been talking or making some sort of noise because within 20 minutes of walking in, I see red and blue lights flashing on the wall and one of the doors on the far side opens. I didn't really process everything fast enough and before I knew it I heard a large dog barking. I hear someone yell "Put your hands in the air and walk towards me slowly". I started walking towards the voice (the factory is pitch black and I was using my cellphone as a flashlight). I get maybe 30ft away from the cops and one of them goes "Don't even think of trying to run away, we won't hesitate to release the dog". This whole time there's a mind-numbingly loud barking noise echoing through the entire building. I get up to the cops, they handcuff me and pat me down. My camera, cellphone and lip balm (Yeah, they took my lipbalm) were taken away. I was shoved into the back of a cop car and they spent another 15 minutes doing a thorough search of the building. This whole time I haven't been able to explain anything and no one has asked me any questions. Finally one of the cops comes up to me asks me what I was doing, I explain myself and they go "Well you have to be lying. The real estate agent said he had sealed this place up tight and you had to have broken in. He is pressing charges against you for B&E." I'm pissed at this point because literally every door to this place is open. I'm hauled off to the police station and booked in. After 5 hours of interrogation (Okay, more like 30 mins of interrogation and 4.5 hours sitting alone in this 4x4 white room with a table and 2 stools screwed to the floor) they release me with no charges on account of "Not enough evidence". TL;DR. Real Estate agent calls the cops, presses BS charges. 5 Hours of waiting in the police station just to be told they have to release me because there's not enough evidence to complete the charge. Didn't even get a trespassing ticket.
