Bout to go urban exploring for my first time, anyone have any tips I should be aware of?

Or if you could just link to something instead that'd be cool too.

Was definitely going to anyways, I don't like the idea of exploring places without them.

Listen to Lelandro. Sometimes what you think is an exploration will unknowingly turn into B&E: Just like gloves, you want to conceal your face also.

Not long ago, I was exploring a building from the inside and came across a hole in a wall covered with a box.
Having removed the box that was on the OTHER side, I squeezed my way in, and walking around the darkness, saw some super fancy chairs, a Sony flatscreen, a beautiful red couch, and an iMac. I moved the mouse and the screen came on, okay, at that point I realized the place was occupied (thank goodness the tenant wasn't home). I mentally freaked out, moving my eyes around in paranoia I noticed 2 cameras, then covered my face with a mask. Got the hell out of there that very second.

Always hide your face when it's a place you aren't 100% sure about or if you think you hear someone else that isn't with you.

Take a flashlight. And watch out for strangers of the "crackhead" variety. They can be an angry lot. For real though good luck and have fun.

Its exploring bud, not neurosurgery. Gloves, good shoes, bottle of water and go have an adventure. Life is too short to plan everything like D-Day. Peace.

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

Boots, good flashlights, a decent camera, gloves and respirators are also really handy.

I don't agree with this advice. Covering your face is going to get you in a LOT more trouble if you get caught. It just makes you stand out and look ridiculously suspicious. Greatly increases your chances of confrontation in general, whether that's with workers, security, police, or even a hobo or fellow explorer.

We're taking pictures of historic sites. Not robbing banks.

EDIT:
And my advice for the op: Don't overthink it. Just go out and have fun.

Agreed. If you're looking to scare the shit out of an unstable schizophrenic homeless man, show up in what amounts to his house in full tac gear with your face covered. That'll get a bottle or two thrown at you.

Yes, but no. Has there ever been a case where this caused you more trouble? Why would you not cover your face? This just makes it a lot easier for them to identify you later on and especially know how you look.

If you are confronted by police you have bigger things to worry about.
