While driving to my credit union service center I noticed that the old Uptown Charlie's at 14 Mile and Stephenson in Madison Heights, MI. was being torn down. Parts of the roof and back were already gone. Two choices presented themselves: 1. Double back after leaving the credit union and foolishly explore a structure that was unsound with a week's worth of money in my back pocket, or 2. Go home and take the safe and prudent choice.
Fast forward to these photos. I parked in the shared lot between Charlie's and a hotel and headed in. Having only my cell phone I knew the photos would not be LIFE magazine quality yet I also knew the entire structure would be torn down to the foundation in another week day or so.
The entire time spent in what was left of the place was probably under 2 minutes time. As you can see, it was far from the most 'thrilling' exploration one could take on. Also, even the most seasoned urban explorer knows that partially demolished buildings are among the most dangerous to enter since, after all, they are specifically set up to fall in at any moment.
In any case, here ya go....
