Absolutely love this set! I would definitely pay the money to have that kind of access. Especially if it's a place you otherwise would not have access to no matter what. But that's just me. Thanks for sharing your pics.

Thank you Yeya, it was indeed an odd feeling to be able to wander about without a care in the world...

Does anyone know what they actually do with the money? Do they just use it tpo line their own pockets and pay the taxes? Cause $100/person seems a bit steep. Especially when they dont offer any historical information with your tour.

the money goes back into the restoration of the buildings - with the bulk of the proceeds directly helping the kirk. and i would MUCH rather lead my own tour rather than being trailed by someone wearing 19th century clothing and giving me the history of the place. i know the history well enough as it is. and from what i have gathered while on the photo tours and overhearing the tour guides leading the non-photogs around, they mostly talk about this dude died here, this patient killed that patient etc etc...

i have done the photo tour 2 times now (driving from texASS mind you) and i will do it again. the 8 hour tour is the way to go because during the 'mandatory' lunch break (12-2) i just stayed and roamed the hallways of every building on campus (unfortunately they still do not allow anyone inside the TB building - it is only used for the haunted house each year) but it is of little consequence really because the whole place is simply wonderful.

so essentially, for $150 you can spent upwards of 10+ hours inside a beautiful kirkbride without shitty graffiti of dicks and what not all over the place and without ANY fear of being on the receiving end of a trespassing charge or worse.

i am hoping to go again this summer as it has become somewhat of a ritual for me when i make my semi-annual pilgrimage to the NE.

anyone who looks down upon this kind of thing as not really qualifying as "urbexing" (what a fucking horrible term anyway) is completely missing the point in my opinion.

and big ups on this set my man - you found some angles i didnt even see during the 16 hours i have spent there! well done!

The daily maintenance, upkeep and preservation of a 133 year-old building of this size and condition costs a ridiculous amount of money. It has to be kept safe and stable for commercial use, has to pay commercial-property taxes, must be inspected constantly and updated to current building codes and the costs of repairs and construction for a single owner (Joseph Jordan) are astronomical.
Look at the size of this beast!

Great set of shots you got from here, Der_Krampus.

I did the eight hour tour a couple years ago (and met insulinguy while I was there, too). Well worth the money. Like insulinguy said, part of what you're paying for is the freedom to NOT be led around by a docent but rather having the ability to go where you want at your own pace. What you're also paying for is being in a group with a limited number of people, so that you're not tripping all over each other and getting in each other's shots.

Great set. I'd be interested in taking a tour, the idea of not looking over your shoulder is definitely appealing, especially when in another country.

Great shots dude!

I did the tour a few years ago and loved it. Unguided and cop free, I roamed the campus on my own time shooting photos and listening to music on headphones.

I would for sure do it again. I thought it was worth it.
