Ya, we encountered the same thing Higgs...We went around 5-ish and no one was home thankfully. We saw the stuff and just took off from the basement. Spent a good hour or so wandering and STILL didn't encounter anyone. I think they may just show up after dark!

There's safety in numbers. As long as you're not alone, you should be fine. Hobos are usually solo. Also, I know the place on e. 55th you're talking about. Better hurry, I read somewhere they're going to rehab it soon.
