An album only each individual member can see would be a great convenience to everyone.
There is this one little popular scavenger photo hunt game that I like to play on here, but, about 95% of the time I have to go search one of my posts for the item in question to submit my find, or go to another window and retrieve it from my facebook albums. The whole process would be so much easier if I could just stay on uer.ca and go to an album only I can see. Maybe even have the ability to make categories for it? Perhaps that is just pushing my luck.
The new feature could also be convenient if you wanted to show your photo(s) to another member on here through a PM.

Good luck, but that's not going to happen.

I have all of my photos organized into separate folders by location name and sub-folders by date. When I wanna pop a pic on the Scavenger Hunt, I just load it through TinyPic or ImageShack and in five seconds, it's up. I don't mind that they're not the finest HD res one can pay for but it's usually a photo of some godforsaken shithole anyway. I'm not so deluded that if it were a higher resolution I'd get any more "wow, cool pic, dude" comments from you all.

On a similar note, I wish when you looked at a member profile there was a button to 'show all posts with pictures', similar to the 'Find all posts by this user'. That way you could just see pictures that the user has posted to the forums.

I'd check out imgur.com, a lot less ads and it doesn't modify your photo (convert, resize, etc)

Also the likely hood of this feature being implimented is really small, honestly. To do this they would have to either modify the search function or have some kinda web crawler that crawls the forums and compiles a database of images embedded in each thread, then figure out how to associate the post with the users account (filter out things like quoted images) and then modify the forum to be able to pull the list of images and display them in a gallery, and for the idea of finding posts with images there's the problem of determining the accessibility of each image (was it posted in a FM only thread or publically viewable?).

That's a lot of work to save you from having to open a new window and go to your Facebook account, also browsers nowadays have these things called tabs which let you browse another page without having to change windows!

I think you're on to something here.

The first thing I would do, however, is go to the left panel on your screen, click donate, and make sure you are helping AV keep the site up and running.

If more of us did this regularly, I'm sure things like this would have much greater of a possibility of happening. It takes a lot of back-end effort and much more server space to do what you're asking.

But cheers; I like the idea.

I agree that it would involve work, and lord knows that Avatar-X has more than enough on his plate, but it would not be as complicated as you say. All posts are contained in a database with the user, the forum, and a text field with what we write. I am sure that the 'Find all posts by this user' is just a query that brings results from the database based on the user id. To return all a user's posts that have an image, it would be a matter of adding to the query an extension to the 'where' clause that would check within the text field containing the post for the string occurrence of '<img'. Of course there will be other criteria to check, and work to create the new results pages, but it is far from an impossible task. I just find that sometimes I want to see an image that I remember that a UER user put up, or to see more of their work, and it can take quite a while to go through all their posts to find it. Again, this is all for nothing, as I completely don't expect Avatar-X to have the time to be bothered with this, I just put it up here as a feature I would be interested in seeing.

I was more speaking toward having a private album per user. The way I understood his request was he wanted to mimic what Flickr or imgur do.

Perhaps I misheard what he wanted in that respect, but I think my point still stands. If we all ponied up five bucks here and there it would help our cause.

Even easy tweeks take time.

I think something like that would massively increase UER's size. Would make the site more expensive. I think it works well enough to post your photos in Flickr/Photobucket/etc. and send them to individual people. You could send Av a PM and see if there's a similar or 'close-enough' function on UER.

I remember there used to be the MySite function on UER. Don't know if it's still here or not, but you could set up your own UE-related site with your portfolio, etc. Maybe it's a donation-member-only function. Not sure what happened to it, cannot see its button on the site anywhere.

Fred, try to make your posts more purposeful.

That wasn't very useful and sounded kind of assholish.

Sorry Site_Unseen, my comment was not aimed towards you, I was just replying to Dark_Aaron's comment. I was just explaining that the 'search picture posts' from members was not a giant coding nightmare. But again, I have no expectation that he should or will do any suggestion made here, like you say, even the smallest change takes time, and I believe he puts enough of his own time providing us with this forum.

I agree with you 100% though about everyone needing to chip in with donations. This site, I am sure is a massive amount of work for Avatar-X to maintain let alone develop new features, and many of us take that for granted. All he asks is donations to pay for the costs associated with keeping it up, there is nothing asked for his time, decisions he has to make, or responsibility he takes on for all of this. It is a small token of appreciation that a member can give for a site that gives us so much.

Yes there's that way too, the way I was thinking was to actually have like a private photo album system like facebook's.

Hosting photos costs server space ... it's not really worth keeping them on this site if they aren't going to be seen by anyone but you. The best place to keep stuff like that is on your local computer. If you want it accessible from the net, use something like Dropbox.

This right here, with DSLR image being about 3-5mb each - thats a lot of stonewalled space.
