That's park number 1, not gallery number 1. I went out of town this weekend to visit two abandoned amusement parks.

1. Here it is from a nearby rooftop.

2. It looks pretty easy to get in from the side, but we decided to go through the trees due to some potentially active security devices.

3. It gave us a good view of the ferris wheel.

4. The classic sign, which can be found at amusement parks across Korea.

5. In the distance you can see a very iconic bridge.

6. Looks very climbable.

7.

8.

9. The one girl of the group came down with a rash from something

10.

11.

12. Heading down.

13. Log flume ride.

14. Less happy.

15.

16. Is that Ernest Hemingway?

17.

18.

19.

20. Ice cream loving.

21.

22. Last, I climbed all the way to the top.

23. This was not fun.

I tell my girlfriend not allowed to pregnant too.

Great set. What are those masks called/from? They are very creepy and oriental, I dig it.

Lovely set of photos AND what looks like a very fun trip (except where otherwise mentioned, that photo literally made my feet tingle in a very unpleasant way because guh unrestricted heights) (you will never see a crane shot from this account unless it's in reverse) (I will take all the photos you want at the bottom of the crane).

Apart from the dirty water, that place hardly looks abandoned! How long has it been out of commission, if that's not too sensitive? Looks darn near ready to just throw its doors open and flip the switch to 'on'.

They come from a traditional Korean maskdance performance/exorcism ceremony called talchum (literally mask dance). Each one symbolises a different type of character during the Joseon period (1392-1910). The maskdance plays were done by commoners to satirise their oppressors and vent some of their anger.

The one on the left represents yangban, or the traditional aristocracy, while taller one is from a rival branch of the aristocracy called seonbi, a type of literati that often feuded violently with the yangban. The female mask is called bunetal and represents a flirtatious woman. In the maskdance plays she is the object of affection of the yangban and seonbi.

There are many different maskdance traditions in Korea, but these ones are unique being made out of wood rather than paper. They are considered to have their own souls, and due to the hinged jaw are able to form many facial expressions.

If you want to know more and see what the actual maskdances look like, you can learn a lot more through this (non-UE-related) guide I wrote.

It appears to have only closed last year, but was a long time coming. They've already moved out all the smaller rides that are moveable.

Looks like the large white dog is a Great Pyrenees.
The dog gets its name from being a native dog within the French Pyrenees mountains. This reminds me of two TV series & a recent 2013 movie all titled Belle & Sebastian, which is about a seven year old boy named Sebastian & his white dog of the same breed named Belle. The original B & S series (1965)http://www.youtube...atch?v=ugzAnaXIZO0
The anime/animated version from the 1980's which also aired on Nickelodeon http://www.youtube...atch?v=JWMpdO-VCe4
& finally the trailer from the recent 2013 live action movie

I think you meant to put that in the other thread I made. But you're probably right about the dog. Not a common breed here. They usually go for smaller dogs, especially Maltese.

Quite an interesting article. I had no idea how much symbolism there was behind the masks. Thanks for sharing!

Pretty cool. Kind of weird that this thing is abandoned since it looks like it's in a growing area of the city.
Also, how exactly did you make the first photo? Just wondering if you tried photomerge in Photoshop since it seems to do a good job of creating seamless panoramas.

The sign said "Anybody caught trespassin will be shot on sight"
So I jumped on the fence and I yelled at the house,
"Hey! What gives you the right?" http://www.flickr.com/photos/evman/

That was just photomerge in Photoshop. I was impressed with how it turned out. Usually I prefer a program called PTGui for stitching photos together, but didn't have access to an unlocked version on this computer.

You know, I don't actually like going to active amusement parks. I'm not really a fan of waiting in line and going on rides.

When they're abandoned you don't have to wait!

Same here. I have not liked amusement park rides since I was a kid. If you go to most of the amusement parks near me, especially on a busy day, you will be waiting up to an hour for the more popular rides. No thanks. I will take a abandoned park over that any day! It's free, no waiting and none of the rides move, perfect!

Great photos! I like the roller coaster cars based of the '57 Chevy.
