A week-night exploration in Montreal

So I had a friend visiting from Toronto over the week and we were both feeling mildly adventurous. I wanted to check out this place some redittor had mentioned to me because it seemed like an easy, mostly risk-free location near Griffintown. This was kind of impromptu so neither of us had a flashlight or a decent camera. We ended up using the flashlight feature on her iPhone and used my Nokia 920 for the pictures.
I tried looking up some info about the building online but didn't find anything as of yet. I am still not sure what i used to host. I'm thinking it was probably residential?

Finding a way in was surprisingly easy but necessitated some climbing up and down to a small entrance leading into a pitch dark basement. This building must have been abandoned for quite some time because the place is completely empty and what remains is really falling apart. We quickly identified the main (and only) staircase.

We also found what probably once was the elevator. Although looking at it you'd swear it was a garbage chute.

Definitely an elevator though.

From there we just made our way up and explored the floors. Among the various objects we found, shoes definitely dominated the landscape.

Very cozy living room. There were baby clothes on the chair and we found baby bottles here and there.

I'm guessing this used to be a kitchen. Looks like someone left in a hurry after washing the dishes.

I almost stepped right there.

We located the emergency stairs and made our way to the roof.

So yeah, that was that. Forgive me for the quality of the images, will definitely make sure to carry my SLR (and a flashlight) next time. Hope you enjoyed the post!

Hi! Thanks for sharing this with the community!

I think this building used to house offices or something like this for CN and CP rail employees. Not very exciting as an explore, but the view from the roof is always nice.

@Deconstrukt: I guess that would make sense, since the old CP rail station is just across the street

Looks like a pretty gnarly place. Were you wearing a respirator in there? Sketchy, to say the least... Cool explore.

@SiteUnseen: no respirator It would probably have been a good idea though. Like I said, it was quite impromptu as an exploration. The air did feel quite damp in there.

nice job with working with what u had on hand, pretty decent pics. you really gotta be carful on those fire escapes, like shown in the picture the stairs always rust out first and eventually the whole thing will literally start to come off the building its anchored to. ive heard stories of veeeerrry mangled people cause by fire escapes collapsing.

I always wanted to explore that building, but never really tried to get in...

It must have been a nice building to explore back when it was still in a decent condition.

I really like the rusty railing and the tiles on the 9th picture!
