I'm on my way up to Boulder to pick up her new motor today! 130k mi (the Soob has 240k!), all new seals and gaskets, etc. SO EXCITING.

my Subie is off Monday to get new sneakers, timing belts, water pump, accessory drive belts front and rear brakes and rotors... the thing that strikes me about the old Outback is that it's almost 15 years old and drives like a goddamn cadillac. The other thing is how dump truck geared it is... 60mph and the tach is at 3k. I'd hate to see what 75mph is.

That is a odd combo. Most of the 2wd trucks had the straight six, and a good amount of those were stick shift. Was it originally a southern truck? Many more 2wd's were sold down south.

nope, the truck was originally sold at Egglefield Ford in Elizabethtown NY, belong to elderly person from day one. He traded it in for a Focus and my father bought it and has had it ever since. It's well-equipped, too. A/C, cruise, tilt, power windows, locks, swanky tape deck, alloy wheels. I've got to make an appearance over there today, I'll snap some pics of it. The funny part is, the truck had a blue interior. When he accented the truck in the emerald flash color, he dyed and vinyl painted the interior black. He did a nice job on it, although I didn't think he went into detail enough.

The outback's had 4.44 gears , for mountain passes with your life partner in the passenger seat and golden retriever in the rear. But in all seriousness I have one of those dog fence things for an outback your bodystyle if your ever down in the Allentown area its yours , there $$$.

what it could use is a front fascia... the one it is mangled.
i'm worried about the timing belt... It's been a long time since I had a car with a timing belt and the one car I DID have wasn't an interference engine. I'm almost afraid to drive the car because I don't really have the money for the parts or labor (trying to get my house finished before winter) to have it replaced.
Timing belts give no warning before they fail. That worries me. I priced new engines (just as a precaution) and the price for a 100,000+ engine was over $1000.00

Truth. I just dropped a rebuilt 130k mi EJ22 into my Legacy and was initially given the same price range by my mechanic. I found the motor at a shop in Boulder (native land of the Subaru) for $750 out the door. Deals can be found but you're right, Sam, these boxer engine aren't cheap, especially the older ones.

If you're OK with potentially paying for shipping, I'd give these guys a call: Super Rupair. Based on the amount of Outbacks in their yard, I think you may have some luck finding a powerplant.

Same thing with my old Impreza Outback. Which is strange, because some of the best handling, fastest cars I've driven were 1st gen Imprezas!

National Lead bridge... yesterday. It was a fantastic day and it left me a bit weirded out. My favorite location is now an operating mine again. Iowa & Pacific Railroad is gearing up to haul out to millions of tons of waste rock after thirty years of inactivity. The road in was even landscaped!

Saw this old petrol station on a ride , looked like it was going to be demoed so i had to stop and get a pic.

Cool story, brah.
