Comes with bloody history and ghosts!

http://time.com/65...-auction-poveglia/

I hope no one buys it and turns it into some kind of resort or park. I get it's a great location for anything, but there's so much preserved history on the island, it'd be a shame if anything was torn down. :\ If you don't know the history of the island, I suggest reading up on it. It's chilling.

This has already been posted earlier... But thanks for the Flickr photos.

*From what I've seen online, there is an offer on the table to buy it, demolish everything and make it into a tourist resort.

My bad, I should have checked before posting. I guess I was so excited I blanked out on it probably was posted already. Oh, well! Vivere e imparare.

It's a shame :\ I remember wanting to go there in my younger years and now a UE treasure might get completely demolished. Though, I wonder how many people will even step foot on the island, resort or not? The Italian government banned anyone from going because of how haunted they believe it is.

The American government has also banned citizens from going into abandoned buildings... But that hasn't stopped many of us, now has it?

Obviously if they're going to sell it, that law has to change. 'Cause who's going to buy an island they can't even go to? I wonder if this recent influx in popularity will bring us some photos from daring explorers. ;)

Not my point. My point was that because people were banned from going because it was haunted, I was saying BECAUSE people claim it's haunted, the place is probably rich in shit to explore along with amazing history. It takes a lot to freak out a whole country.

I bet the ghosts can point us to some pretty nice places to explore on the island.

Ah, it's funny as I'm planning a trip to Slovenia and Italy next summer, and we were planning on trying to get to Poveglia!

Maybe we can pretend to be rich people interested in buying the island

Despite the legends about this place, I find this doubtful.

The government prohibited locals and tourists from going. Originally they had boats that took people to the island but eventually stopped that. Whether it's for supernatural/superstitious feelings or not, still interesting.

I think we should all pitch in and buy it so that we preserve it just the way it is.

The island is filled with the ashes of 1000's of victims of the plague. Judging by the way Italians treat the island, I doubt anybody would buy that island anytime soon. Its "cursed" and I wouldn't doubt it. My friend is in Europe right now and I told him to talk to people about Poveglia while in Venice, and he said the locals don't like talking about it or dodge the question all together. Hard to imagine what they would use the island for if the did buy it. But who knows. I'm just going to assume its going to stay the way it is for a while.

Yeah I know the island was off limits, I meant that I doubt it was off limits because it was too haunted.

Oh, no, I didn't mean that. Like another guy said on here, the Italians hate talking about it. Very superstitious but they stopped allowing anyone to go over for many different reasons. But probably didn't stop people like us finding some way to get over. Bribes can go so far.

If you look on Bing birds eye view there is no shortage of pleasure boats in the very immediate vicinity and even tied up at a dock.
