Hello UER,
It has been a while since I've made a post one here, but I could not resist sharing this one.
I'm intrigued by massive man made objects; ships, planes, building, etc... Who isn't right? So I thought I'd go out and explore new limits out, I decided the "Dock Lands" would be the best place to explore, so I drove off to the area to scope out my next adventure. Shortly afterwards I spotted a tempting and massive ship that seemed to have very little activity around it and was most welcoming.
I parked the vehicle prepared my gear, prepared myself and went for a walk.
Security was in their booth being productive as always so I had to find another method to enter, used another property to gain access to the docks. Unfortunately I encountered a barbed wire fence, it sucks having to climb over them. When I have all the time in the world I can come out unscathed, but that was my only escape route. I found a dead owl once hanging upside down caught in a fence, I did not want to end up like that poor bird in the heat of the moment.
Only once I was standing next to the beast I could actually see how big it was, and WOW was I ever excited. I have been thinking of this moment since I posted my last Shipyard OP. The ships radar, pumps and motors were running so activity was expected and I would have to be once again totally oblivious and stealthy. I didn't take many photos of the outside thinking I would do that last. My sequence was going to be climb aboard first and go; Deck Front to Back, then Superstructure Top to Bottom, Engine Room, Storage Area and then Dock Outside.
I stood at the bottom of the ramp, jokingly said to myself "Permission to come aboard, Sir!" gave a quick salute and up I went.
I was in awe while walking to the front, it was amazing :p
As I was walking around on the deck a loud low frequency bang and rumble echoed through the ship "God, I doubt that was me..?" It was now apparent that a crew was still working into the late night and I would need to heighten my awareness up.
Wow!!!! I'm just mesmerized at the size of this pivoting conveyor.
Everything is going well, not a soul has been spotted. I'm obviously very nosey so I was peering into portholes. In one I saw fire fighting equipment and could not wait to see it up close. The other portholes were crew cabins, in one I noticed a cup of coffee on the desk and the tv was playing. Heightening my awareness up even more now. I continued confident that I will not be made.
After doing a quick security scan of the area I notice a body slowly wadding towards the ship. Once he got closer it was obvious that someone was little intoxicated. I watched him climb aboard and disappeared. I doubt he was a threat so I continue exploring.
Once again I was prying in to the windows and for the first time in my life I'm looking at modern ship navigation equipment. How exciting!
I don't know how many people do this but whenever I'm doing questionable behaviour I think of excuses to justify my actions if the law ever got involved. For this moment it would be that the Discovery Channel promotes useless and non educational show and I must find new means to educate myself
I know it's silly, it wouldn't get me far.
I was enjoying the bridge a bit too much and was spending a lot of time there. Could you blame me? It was too cool!!!
I was taking an exposure in the conner of the room when I suddenly heard foot steps, I had no time to react and cause a big scene trying to escape so I had to remain calm, cool and collect my thoughts. A fraction of a second later a man walks through the doorway as if he needed something on the desk, he looks to his left and see me staring with my camera. He seemed to be calm and not alarmed by my presence, "Hello, taking some pictures are we?" I replied politely "Yes I am". He then asked "Where are you from? The company?" Thank god he gave me some information to work with, "Yes" I replied " I talked to management about taking some photos. I like to go to the engine room", "Oh I'd talk to the engineers first" he said, to which I said " Yah, management told me to stay out of the PPE Areas(Personal Protective Equipment)". We had a quick conversation about my camera and the nice Toronto skyline, and afterwards he grabbed the ship's cordless phone and says "Alight, I'll be back later" and soon again I was alone. Eeeeee that was a close call and I wasn't too sure if he had bought my acting, he could be playing me a fool... Calling management... Or worse the 5-0. I couldn't risk it, decided my time was up, I calmly packed up and left.
I left feeling pretty disappointed being made and all,
The End.
