My good friend Chris Sendrowski has been filming his trips out when we explore for the past 5 years.

He decided to put it all together as a documentary and do some interviews asking several explorers why they decided to start and for what reasons.
He has put up the entire film on Vimeo for free for the next few days, if you are interested in checking it out. Here is the link:

Going to hopefully check this out tonight. You said it will be up for free for the next few days… know what the future holds for the film?

Not really sure. It can't be sold as is because it has a few unlicensed songs. I know he would love to get it up on Netflix, but it'll have to be recut with a few new songs.

I watched the first ten minutes and will finish watching tonight. Awesome so far!

As far as music licensing, I would suggest using tracks from bandcamp.com. There is a TON of great tracks there produced by indie musicians. The benefit is that you can contact them directly and talk about licensing and about 75% of the time they'll allow you to use the track for free if you let them know your production is basically a labor of love/vanity/art project. Not sure that's Chris' intention for his film, but I think a personal Urbex doc like this probably fits that category. In the instances when the artist does want a fee, it's usually pretty reasonable. If you try licensing a track from a label, they're pretty much priced out of range of the little indie producer.

See the problem is that he edited it to the songs (only three were without permission, the rest are from two guys in the doc).

Changing them out would mean re-editing it. I'm sure he'll cross that bridge when he comes to it.

This documentary is so sick! I love it.

Plus, great seeing two of my friends!

I do the same. All my stuff is edited to music I don't own the rights to. Nothing I upload to youtube will play on smartphones or tablets. I'm okay with that for now. (It's all teaser stuff) I know when I finally put it all together I'll have to recutt as well as work out a legit score.

When my film is done I'll be lucky if it's half as good as this.

Again, great job!
I love it!

wow, great film... I guess it may be challenging to find something to fit the film music wise the way the current music does already. Maybe forget that and just roll with it the way it is.

Very impressive. Loved the snow scenes @ the outset. Music is a bit noisy, not sure it actually works for me at least, it creates a bit of dissonance that is easily avoidable. Something more mellow would be better, IMO. Great Pink Floyd sound @ around 12 minutes, though.

I do custom scoring. PM me if you want to collaborate. I could write the music to fit the edits.

That is a GREAT video! Most of the videos on urban exploration are not really very good, but that one is the true exception.

Same here.
They do play on smartpones or tablets if they are embedded.
Start a thread on UER and just give people that link.

They won't show up when people search YouTube or Vimeo though (as you already know).

Looking forward to watching this docco - I hope you bastards haven't talked it up too much so as my expectations are too high

Cheers

He has decided to leave it up permanently. He is not interested in selling it at this point so it will stay as it is with all the music. No need for re-edits or worrying about licensing since it will be free for everyone to watch.

I appreciate everyone who took the time to watch it. he is very happy with the amount of attention it has gotten.

This is great! I just watched the first 15 minutes, and I'm gonna watch the rest when my internet connection is more stable.

Is your friend the filmmaker a member on UER? He's done an awesome job! I really like the film as a whole, and the general style he's taken. Great dolly shots to add a bit more life/movement to the scenes. I'd be really interested to hear what gear he used (dolly, camera, lenses, ect.)

Really well edited too so far. I like the cutting around 5:30 I think, where he's cutting right on beat with the music. I can see why he doesn't want to have to re-edit that.

Great job!!!
