I once stumbled across a hotel. It was a lovely hotel, and very much untouched. About a week ago, it was featured on the news for its upcoming demolition. Wanting to pay it one final visit, I dropped by...to find it covered shingles to foundation in dicks and sloppy tags. I was livid, to say the least. It used to be so nice. Can anybody commiserate? Any stories of a site gone straight to hell?

Yes, this happened to me too. I found a newly closed factory near where I work. We first explored it in october, the place was empty but still clean, despite the fact that people were squatting the last floor.

We didn't post any pictures online, but we created an entry in the UE Database, and then all hell broke loose. In less than 4 months, tags spread throughout every wall of the building! Not nice murals, just sloppy tags a 5 yr old child could have done better.

It really broke my heart when I went to visit it two weeks ago. I took pictures of the same virgin walls, now covered in tags, just to make a comparison.. it's heartbreaking. It sucks because the place has nice wooden floors, and huge fire doors but now they are all painted over.

Edit: corrected typos

Due to the diligent screening process here, I find it difficult to believe full members of this website with access to the database were responsible for such pointless vandalism. It's happened to me as well but the tagging is always the same names you find under every bridge and across every billboard in the Philadelphia area. Once the local teens, taggers and scrappers find it, it's a goner.

"Are you happy now with all the choices you've made?" "Are there times in life when you know you should've stayed?"
"Will you compromise and then realize the price is too much to pay?" "Winners and losers... which one will you be today?"

I agree with Ed. People act like the only way someone will find out about an abandoned property is in the database.

Places that get abandoned attract more than just explorers. They attract taggers, vandals and scrappers too. We aren't the only ones out there looking for abandonments. I was finding these places way before I knew about UER, so were many of you, and so are tons of people out there now that don't ever come on this site.

We aren't near as important as we think we are sometimes....

Blah Blah Blah. Shut up and open the damn door.
"It's ok Officer, I watch a lot of cop shows on tv, so i am practically one of you guys." - sadly, that didn't work.
