PowSkierNH and Freaktography, I hope that you don't care about your copyrights, because you will no longer own the rights to the photos after you sign their release.

the whole copyright thing has been beaten to death already. See above. Bottom line: do whatever you want with the photos, they are not going to stop you, their release or whatever will not hold water. I signed it, I don't care, I'll do whatever I want with the pictures and they can go hang. So far, haven't heard of anyone getting a cease-and-desist about it. It's a decent tour, though they should focus more on the unrestored parts or maybe have an unrestored-only tour. Their money-grubbing increased price for the "Photo" tour smacks of poor taste and profiteering but they can get away with it I suppose. I don't think I will make it back there this year but I was glad to go the time I did (before they had a separate "photo" tour.)

My suggestion is to instead go on an Explore Buffalo tour. They don't conduct tours of the Richardson Olmstead Complex, but they do conduct tours of some other pretty interesting buildings, including Buffalo's Electrical Tower and one of the grain silos. They're a pretty nice group.

those sound like they are worth seeing. The BCT was giving tours as of a couple years ago - not sure if they still are. That was worth an explore too.

Thought I'd give a brief review of the tour - I went on Saturday.

I was very happy with it, on Friday I emailed and asked about tripod and flash use - they allow both tripods and on-camera flash, no sticks or umbrellas or off-camera flash is allowed.

They pair you with you a tour guide and all the tour guides to separate ways, so you aren't all bunched together and getting in eachothers shots. I was with one other guy in my group so we took turns getting our shots...it was great to have just a small group and all the time and space we needed.

Most of the building is still pretty awesome, I believe "building 9" was the best one - every floor untouched since the early 70's.

The guide just talks while you shoot, asks what you want to see and what you want to know - knowing that we were both into the decay she took us to the best spots, then she just stayed out of our way while we shot. The only rule she gave us was to not go into the rooms as the floors were collapsing but she allowed us to use our best judgement. If we were taking a long time on one floor she would tell us that the next floor is even better, or she would say "I can let you guys keep shooting here, or we can go see the basement and the tunnels, up to you"

In all, 2 hours was plenty of time to see what's worth seeing and to learn a bit of history.

Yes - there was the waiver and photo rights issue, but who cares about that - it was a great time and nice low stress opportunity to shoot some cool stuff!

I would post some pics but I don't have them on me.

Definitely glad I did it and I highly recommend it!

k?

Yes - there was the waiver and photo rights issue, but who cares about that

Everyone who cares one iota about their intellectual property rights.

What misinformation did he dispel? They're still pulling the same nonsense with the rights to the photos.

The misinformation about no tripods.

While your point about the photo rights is fair and valid, it's been made about 4 times in this thread. Some people don't care about the rights (I'd be one of them). You're entitled to your opinion, including that my opinion is wrong and immoral and bad for the planet, but jeez, enough already.

Thanks for posting, sounds like it may be worth doing the photo tour next time I am out that way. Cool that they allow you into buildings that are not (?) on the regular hard-hat or whatever tours. Definitely post some shots when you get them together.

Every in depth tour listed on the site is now sold out. Hopefully they do it again next year!

I put this one up today, it's from the basement tunnels. It was cold and dark and super cool down there.

I'd have left it alone if not for the, "...but who cares about that," comment. If one isn't concerned about losing the IP rights to their photos, then by all means, go on the tour and take photos, but don't suggest that no one cares despite multiple statements, not just from me, to the contrary.

Read it again. "Some people don't..." Meaning, yes, if you care about it, listen to Shawn. If you don't, then, uh, don't.

We're saying the same thing. You're just saying it more often and I'm not saying it again.

;)

Edit: I realize you're referring to Freak saying that, not me. My bad. Carry on.
