This is pretty amazing… I think it might have been posted before, but it's nice to see something done with these places rather than demolition, so for those who haven't seen it:

That's pretty awesome. Thanks for the share! I love it when they repurpose buildings around their original architecture instead of completely striping everything until you have no idea what it once was.

I saw a hotel once they had created around the structure of an old brewhouse. It was pretty cool.

Toronto's Distillery District is a neighbourhood created in what was once the largest whisky distillery in the world in the 19th century. It was abandoned for a number of years. The buildings were repurposed for galleries, restaurants, cafes, a craft brewery, a performing arts venue and condos. The streets are paved with red bricks and pedestrianized. Some see it as touristy, but it's a great area in the city that Torontonians and tourists enjoy visiting.

As an architecture student I've looked at that before, it's an amazing project. It must have cost a fortune to do, but it's nice to see such a permanent structure re-purposed rather than torn down.

If anyone ever has the chance you should really check out Buffalo, NY. Concrete Alley as it's called is a very interesting place to explore with abandoned grain elevators everywhere along the Buffalo river that have been sitting derelict since the late 60s when the St. Laurence seaway opened up the great lakes and negated the need to store the grain there.

When I say I'm 'clean and sober', it means I've showered and I'm headed to the liquor store.
