Either you stride in like you own the place or you run around like a frightened chicken on a hot sidewalk.

First one, then the other.

If I were describing my involvement in this hobby to somebody not on this forum, I'd call myself a novice. I've only been really at it as a deliberate thing for the last few years, and there isn't a lot of opportunity in my area to explore anything very big or very touchy. (That being said, defining myself to anyone ON this forum seems counter-productive; anyone can load my profile, see how long and how much I've been posting, click through a couple of my sets of crummy cell phone pics and come to their own conclusions about how serious they think I am).

The aforementioned lack of availability has probably stunted the development of my ballsiness with regard to trespassing in places where there is a higher likelihood that being caught could result in legal ramifications rather than just being frowned at and shooed away, and when I was in TN over the weekend I heeded the advice of a very, very good friend who lives much, MUCH more recklessly than I do to not fool around in his area (where he's lived most of his life), both because of the law and the locals. That said, I'm becoming more adventurous and enjoying what I do creep about in a great deal. I've also come to like my time on UER.ca a great deal, and it's very nice to meet people now and again to swap notes, ideas, and stories, and I hope my continued involvement and accrual of virtual street-cred will facilitate more of that.

Idea: what if we replace "rank" with "esteem"?

True, it's not a competition or a hierarchy. But there are those whom I personally consider "legends", based on feats and/or photographic caliber, and would feel very honored at the chance of meeting and exploring with them.

I have one, too, but I only bring it on long hikes. I use it to sit on to rest my sore feet. It makes my feet feel better but for whatever reason it seems to transfer the pain to my butt. IDK.

I'm definitely a noob. Have only photographed two locations, have explored one location four times (parts of it were not accessible due to weather and not having enough balls to go into one building), so I'm definitely a noob. I don't even have a respirator mask yet (next paycheck, I promise)! So, yeah, noob as noob comes.
