Ah. This happened to me years back. Not to mention my college town was a world renown and internationally traveled to tourist trap (see Colonial Williamsburg). I had to totally change my way of exploring from the way I'd do it around the Capital.
Beat the system. My 'splorin went from your typical old falling apart building to school/hotel rooftops, behind the scenes water pumps, and electrical stations that belonged to the Foundation. There was an active Budweiser theme park to play with too. Basements, secret classrooms, attics, steam tunnels, crypts, you name it! Try to get to know your campus as well as you possibly can. Make it a contest to know it backwards, forwards, up, down, and under --- better than anyone else.
As someone mentioned above, if you keep your mind open to anything, I'm sure you'll find some pretty intense off the wall locales
Good luck!
